Suzuki SAIS Transponder Keys, Mechanical Blanks & ID46 Chips
ID46 transponders, standard blanks, and what your Suzuki needs.
Mechanical Keys: The Early Standard
Suzuki motorcycles primarily use mechanical keys identified by the Ilco SUZ18 X241 blank, with key codes in ranges like 6001 to 7000, A301 to A500, and A6001 to A7000. Older models from the 1990s use purely mechanical keys that are simple to cut and duplicate.
SAIS Transponder Keys: Mid-2000s Onward
Starting in the mid-2000s, Suzuki added transponder chip keys (commonly ID46/PCF7936) on models like the GSX-R600, GSX-R750, GSX-R1000, Hayabusa, SV650, V-Strom, and Burgman scooters. These keys contain an RFID chip that must be programmed to communicate with the ECU before the engine will start. Some Suzuki key blanks are cross-compatible with Kawasaki profiles, which is helpful for locksmiths working on Japanese motorcycles. We program SAIS transponder keys on-site with same-day service.
Suzuki SAIS Immobilizer - ID46 Chips, Antenna Coils & ECU Pairing
How SAIS prevents theft and what it means for key replacement.
How the Immobilizer Works
Suzuki's factory immobilizer is called SAIS, which stands for Suzuki Advanced Immobilizer System. SAIS uses a passive RFID transponder chip in the key (no battery needed) that communicates with an immobilizer antenna coil around the key cylinder. When the key is inserted, the antenna reads the transponder signal and the ECU verifies the code against its stored data. If the codes match, the ECU enables fuel injection and spark. If they do not match, the engine cranks but will not start.
Which Suzuki Models Have SAIS
SAIS was introduced selectively from 2006 to 2008 on the GSX-R1000 and Burgman scooters, and by 2012 approximately 80% of Suzuki models over 250cc had SAIS. Post-2020, Euro5 compliance has made immobilizers standard on virtually all Suzuki motorcycles over 125cc. We handle SAIS programming at your location. No dealer visit required.
Suzuki Dealer vs. Mobile Locksmith - Speed, Price & Convenience
Better price, faster service, zero towing.
What the Dealership Charges
Suzuki dealerships charge $200 to $500 for key replacement, with the process described by owners as time-consuming due to ordering parts, VIN lookups, and programming. The bike must be towed to the dealer for key fitting and immobilizer programming. Multiple Suzuki owners report being turned away by dealers and locksmiths when they have no existing key to copy from.
What EZ Car Keyz Offers Instead
EZ Car Keyz solves this problem with mobile on-site service. We decode locks, cut keys from scratch, and handle SAIS transponder programming, all at your location. Suzuki riders on forums who have used motorcycle locksmiths report costs as low as $5 to $10 per spare key for mechanical cuts, dramatically less than dealer pricing. Skip the dealer and call for an exact quote.

Suzuki Models with Unique Key Characteristics
Key Models to Know
The GSX-R series requires a specific bridging connector procedure with 12V pulses and the original key present to add even one new key. The Burgman scooters (AN400 and AN650) were among the first Suzuki models to adopt SAIS, debuting as early as 2007.
Bandit, V-Strom, and Lock Cylinder Tips
The Bandit 650 is commonly serviced for lost keys where owners have damaged the ignition trying to start with a screwdriver. The correct approach is replacing only the lock cylinder barrel, not the full housing, which saves significant cost. For the V-Strom, the SAIS rollout began around 2011 on the DL650. Our mobile locksmith team handles all Suzuki models on-site.
