San Diego KTM Locksmith - Yes, We Actually Cut KTM Blanks
KTM Key Cutting and Programming at Your Bike
Most KTM owners have hit the same wall: call ten locksmiths, every single one refuses to cut the blank, and the local dealer wants you to drop the bike off for a week. We are the call you make after that. EZ Car Keyz stocks KTM blanks, runs the Xhorse Condor for precise cuts, and brings the diagnostic gear for Race On fob pairing and orange master programming. Duke, RC, Adventure, EXC, SX - whatever you ride, we meet you at the bike. BSIS LCO#6792 and NASTF VSP certified, KTM-equipped.
Three KTM Key Generations - Which One Do You Have?
Street, dirt, or keyless - what is in your KTM key.
Mechanical Keys: The Early Standard
KTM has run three completely different key architectures, and which one you have changes the entire job. Easy bucket first: pre-2012 Duke 620, Adventure 950, RC8, and any-era EXC/SX dirt bike all use purely mechanical keys - blade only, no chip. Those duplicate fast at the bike.
2012 to 2017 - Transponder Era and the Orange Master
Street KTMs in this range use laser-cut transponder keys with glass-encapsulated RFID chips, typically Texas Instruments T5577 or Hitag2. These bikes also introduced the orange master key - a master programming key (similar in concept to Yamaha's red key) used to add new black daily-rider keys to the ECU. Cutting alone is not enough - the chip has to clone or be programmed to the ECU. Both steps happen at the bike with our equipment.
2018 and Newer - Race On Keyless
From 2018 onward, premium street and adventure KTMs (Duke 890, 1290 Super Duke R, 1290 Super Adventure, and others) use Race On - rolling-code encryption, proximity fob detection, and integrated control of ignition, fuel cap, steering lock, even the touring luggage on big adventure bikes. We pair Race On fobs at the bike. No dealer trip required.
KTM's Security Stack - Race On, ARA, and the Orange Master
Race On, ARA, and the orange master - KTM's security stack.
How the Immobilizer Works
Race On runs on every premium KTM - 1290 Super Adventure, Duke 890, Super Duke R, Adventure 1290. The fob handles keyless ignition, fuel cap opening, steering lock release, and luggage on the big adventure bikes.
ARA Mode - Anti Relay Attack
Race On includes ARA for extra security against electronic relay theft. With ARA active, you press the transponder button before twisting the ignition. After that you get a 10-minute window before the system drops into suspend mode and locks all keyless functions. Stop mid-ride and shut off the engine? Suspend mode kicks in again after 5 minutes, and you press the button again to wake everything up. Riders unfamiliar with this often think the bike is broken when it is actually working as designed. Physical keys still open the luggage if power to the actuator fails, which is a real lifeline on a long adventure ride.
The Orange Master - Older KTMs
Pre-Race On KTMs with immobilizers (2008-2016 era) use the orange master key - basically Yamaha's red key concept in a different color. You need the orange master to program new black slave keys to the ECU. Lose it without a backup and the job becomes ECU access work, which we still handle but it takes longer. BSIS LCO#6792, NASTF VSP certified - we handle Race On pairing, orange key programming, and ARA troubleshooting at the bike.
The KTM Dealer Runaround - and the Curbside Fix
Why KTM riders stop calling around and just dial us.
What the Dealership Charges
Every KTM owner hears the same story from the dealer: they hand you an uncut blank and tell you to find a locksmith. You call ten shops and every one refuses because they cannot handle the KTM blade profile. Then the OEM ignition key quote comes back at around $181 before programming fees. The whole experience takes a week and feels like an obstacle course.
The Curbside Fix
We end the runaround on the first call. Our van rolls to your bike with KTM blanks on board, the Xhorse Condor for precision cutting, and the diagnostic gear for transponder programming or Race On pairing - all in one visit. 25-minute average arrival across San Diego County, 50 to 70 percent under dealer pricing, no flatbed bill, no week-long wait. Call (619) 876-1271 for a quote on your exact model and year.

How KTM Keys Have Changed - Mechanical to Race On
Early History
KTM key design spans three completely different security generations. Pre-2008 KTMs ran pure mechanical keys with no electronics. Then 2008 to 2013 brought the transponder chip key plus the orange master system - RFID chips talking to the ECU immobilizer, with the orange master required for programming new black keys. The orange master setup stuck around through at least 2016 on flagship models like the Super Duke 1290 R.
Race On and the Dirt Bike Exception
From 2018 onward, KTM rolled out Race On with rolling-code encryption and proximity fobs on premium street and adventure bikes - the Duke 890, 1290 Super Duke R, 1290 Super Adventure, and similar. Heads up for the off-road crowd: the SX and XC competition models often keep simpler key systems because the bikes are built minimalist and lightweight. Whatever KTM you ride, we meet you at the bike. 25-minute average arrival.
What KTM Owners Tell Us About Key Jobs
What Riders Report
Every KTM rider tells us a version of the same story. The local dealer only sells uncut blanks and expects you to find your own cutter. You call a dozen shops and every one says no. By the time they reach us, they have already lost an afternoon on the phone.
Lessons from the KTM Community
The advice we pass to every new KTM customer: cut a spare immediately after you buy the bike, before something goes wrong. Store the orange master separately from the bike - not in the same garage, ideally not at the same address if you can manage it. Used-bike buyers from private sellers frequently discover they got one key and no key card; do the spare visit before the first ride. Call (619) 876-1271 for same-day spare cutting, backed by over 100 five-star Google reviews.
