About Audi Keys

Audi's Advanced Key system is one of the most sophisticated in the industry, and most dealers will quote you $500 to $900 to replace it. We program Audi proximity keys, flip keys, and transponder keys on-site using the same professional tools, without the tow or the wait.
Audi Advanced Key Programming Without the Dealer Markup

Audi has been building progressively more complex key systems into its vehicles since the early 1990s, moving from basic transponder chips in the B5 A4 through flip keys on the B7 and B8 platforms to full proximity smart keys with the Advanced Key system on current Q5, Q7, A4, and A6 models. Every one of those systems requires professional programming equipment to cut and pair a new key, and none of them support owner self-programming.

Our Audi Programming Toolkit
We use VVDI2 and Autel IM608 programmers capable of reading the BCM2 EEPROM directly, which means we can handle all-keys-lost situations on most Audi models from 2008 through 2022 without towing the vehicle anywhere. We come to your location, work from our mobile setup, and hand you two working keys before we leave. Laser-cut high-security blades used on 2015 and newer Audi models are also part of our standard inventory, so there is no waiting on a parts order.
What the Audi Dealer Experience Is Really Like

The Audi dealer experience for key replacement tends to be slow and expensive in ways that catch owners off guard. Most Audi service departments will not attempt all-keys-lost programming the same day, particularly for Q5, Q7, and A6 models, because they need to verify ownership, order parts if the blank is not in stock, and schedule a dedicated technician.

What the Audi Dealer Charges
Pricing ranges from $350 on the low end for a basic A4 transponder key to $900 or more for a Q8 smart key, and towing your vehicle in adds to that cost when you have no working key. The dealer will also charge a diagnostic fee just to confirm what system your car has before quoting you.

How We Skip the Dealer Hassle
We skip all of that. We confirm the key type from your VIN on the phone, arrive with the correct blank and equipment, and complete the job on-site without any appointment wait or surprise fees.
Audi Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

Audi dealers charge $350 to over $900 for key replacement depending on model, and all-keys-lost situations often require a tow plus a wait of several days for a dealer appointment. We arrive at your location with the blank, the cutter, and the programmer ready to go.

Audi Key Fob Battery Guide

How to Open

Battery Type
CR2032 is standard across the A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q3, Q5, Q7, and Q8 fob lines for 2010 through 2024. Some smaller early fobs use CR1632 or CR2025, so confirm visually before buying a replacement. Battery replacement does not require reprogramming on any Audi model. Expect one to three years of life per cell depending on how often you use the fob. Proactively replacing around the two-year mark avoids the dead-fob scenario entirely.
Pro Tip

If your Audi's push-button start stops responding and a new battery has not fixed it, the emergency start method varies by model year in ways that trip up a lot of owners. On 2018 to 2020 Q5 models, the backup fob spot is in the front cupholder, not the steering column. On 2019 A3 and Q3 models, you hold the dead fob against the key symbol on the right side of the steering column. On earlier 2010 to 2016 models with a slot near the dash, you insert the fob directly.

Why the Right Spot Matters
Check your specific model year before assuming the method, because using the wrong location will not work and can make you think the system has fully failed when it has not. If none of the backup methods get the car started, call us and we will come out to diagnose whether the issue is the fob, the antenna, or the receiver module.
Audi Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
