How Dodge Dart Keys Changed Over the Years
Base Models, 3-Button Remote Head Key
Dodge kept things simple here with a standard 3-button remote head key. It uses a Philips ID46 transponder chip and the SKIM immobilizer system. We program these through your OBD-II port, which means we plug into the diagnostic connector under your dash and have you driving in about 20 minutes.
Keyless Enter-N-Go Smart Key
Dodge stepped things up with the Keyless Enter-N-Go system on higher trims. This is a 5-button smart key with push-button start, a high-security blade, and an NXP Hitag AES (ID4A) chip. Programming requires advanced OBD-II tools or dealer-level access, so basic key programmers will not touch it.
5-Button Fobik
Mid-trim Darts from 2014 onward got a 5-button fobik with lock, unlock, panic, remote start, and trunk buttons. Still running an NXP Hitag AES (ID4A) chip and the WIN module (Wireless Ignition Node). These program through OBD-II with a working key present, and we handle them on-site without any issues.
Late Trim GT and Limited Smart Key
The GT and Limited trims in 2015 and 2016 use a proximity smart key with push-button start and a high-security blade. Here is where it gets tricky: these require server-based authentication for PIN retrieval. We will verify your exact trim before we roll out so there are no surprises.
Which Key Does Your Dart Use?
The basic Dart key. It looks like a traditional car key with buttons built into the head. You turn it in the ignition to start the car.
A fob that stays in your pocket. Walk up, grab the handle, and the doors unlock. Push the button to start. The emergency blade inside is for backup door entry only.
Looks like a chunky fob with a flip-out key blade. You still turn the key in the ignition, but you get all five buttons including remote start and trunk release.
Proximity smart key for the top trims. Same push-button start as the Enter-N-Go, but programming requires server authentication. We verify your trim by VIN before quoting.
What Your Dodge Dart Key Costs
Every price includes the key blank, cutting, programming, and testing; no hidden fees.
EZ Car Keyz vs. the Dealer
Your insurance company does not care who made the key, just that it works. We give you the same result for less.
Common Dodge Dart Key Problems
Key Fob Battery Drain
Keyless Enter-N-Go constantly broadcasts looking for your fob, eating CR2032s fast. If your smart key dies every few weeks instead of a year, the fob may have a short or you store it too close to electronics. We test signal strength on-site.
Transponder Programming Failure
Buttons work fine but the car will not start. Engine cranks for a second and dies. That is Philips ID46 failing to authenticate with the SKIM. Cheap aftermarket keys are the usual culprit. We carry quality ID46 blanks and program with Autel IM608 or VVDI.
Immobilizer Sync Loss
Owners assume a dead battery just needs a jump and everything is normal. Not always. On 2014-2016 Darts, disconnecting can knock the SKIM out of sync. We plug in, run a key relearn through OBD-II, and your existing keys work again.
Remote Start Interference
First check when factory remote start stops: did someone install an aftermarket alarm? Aftermarket alarms intercept the lock signal before the SKIM sees it. You need an immobilizer bypass module. We diagnose in your Camarillo or Moorpark driveway.
Can You Program a Dodge Dart Key Yourself?
No self-programming procedure exists for any 2013-2016 Dodge Dart. Every key, whether it is the basic 3-button remote head or the smart key, requires professional diagnostic equipment plugged into the OBD-II port. Call us at (805) 790-8162 and we will handle it on-site.

Did You Know?
Most people do not know this: the 2013-2016 Dodge Dart's Keyless Enter-N-Go system gives you full passive entry and push-button start on higher trims, but the base models use a simple 3-button remote head key that looks like it belongs on a car from 2005. Same platform, same generation, wildly different key technology depending on which trim you picked off the lot.
