About Dodge Keys

From classic Chargers and Challengers to the Durango, Journey, and Grand Caravan, Dodge runs on Chrysler's Sentry Key platform with model-specific quirks at every generation. We carry the parts and tools to handle them all, on site at your location.
Every Dodge Key Type, Programmed On Site Without a Dealer Appointment

Dodge introduced the Sentry Key Immobilizer System on select models in 1998, and it has been the foundation of their security architecture ever since. Early ID 46 transponder chip keys gave way to ID 47 and 4D rolling-code variants through the 2000s, and proximity push-to-start arrived with the Keyless Enter-N-Go system on 2011 and newer Chargers, Challengers, and Durangos. Starting in 2021, Dodge rolled out voluntary Key Programming Lockdown updates for 2015 and newer Challengers and Chargers, which change how future keys can be added.

How We Program Dodge Keys On Site
We know how each generation programs and what that means for your specific vehicle. Whether you drive a 2006 Charger with a basic SKIM module, a 2014 Durango with an RF Hub, or a 2020 Challenger that may have received the lockdown update, we come to you, cut the key on site, handle the programming through the OBD port, and get you moving without a tow or a trip to the dealer.
Dodge Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

Dodge dealerships charge $250 to $550 or more for a proximity key replacement, plus a diagnostic fee before they even start. An all-keys-lost job runs $150 to $500 and typically requires towing the vehicle in. We handle most Dodge key jobs on site at your location for significantly less, no tow, no waiting room, no multi-day wait for parts.

What to Do When Your Dodge Fob Dies

Pull out the emergency key blade hidden inside the fob. There is a small release button or slide on the side of the fob. Press it and the metal blade will pop out. Use this blade to manually unlock the driver's door. The alarm may sound briefly when you open the door, but it will silence once the car detects the fob inside.

Get in, close the door, and place the dead fob against the push-to-start button. Hold it flat against the button with the button-side or logo-side of the fob facing the dash. The vehicle's proximity antenna will read the fob's passive RFID chip through induction even with a completely dead battery.

Press and hold the brake pedal firmly with your foot, then press the start button normally while still holding the fob against it. The vehicle should start. This method works on Charger, Challenger, Durango, Journey, and Ram push-to-start models from 2011 onward.

If the car does not respond, try repositioning the fob slightly and pressing the start button again. If the 12-volt vehicle battery is also dead, the fob method will not help and you will need a jump first.

Once you are moving, replace the CR2032 battery as soon as possible. Pry open the fob case at the seam using a coin and swap the battery with the positive side facing up. No reprogramming is needed after a battery change.
Pro Tip

If you own a 2015 or newer Dodge Challenger or Charger and have not had the Key Programming Lockdown update applied, get at least one spare key made before you do. The update is free at any Dodge dealership and significantly reduces the risk of your car being stolen through the RF Hub programming exploit that thieves were using extensively on these models.

What Lockdown Means for Spares
The catch is that once the lockdown is active, adding keys becomes more involved, and an all-keys-lost situation requires replacing the RF Hub module on top of cutting and programming new keys. Having a spare in hand before the update eliminates that risk entirely. The Flipper Zero device can also intercept rolling codes from older Dodge fobs to enable repeated lock and unlock access, so storing your key fob in a Faraday pouch when you are not using it is worth the few dollars it costs.
Dodge Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
