SKIM Transponder Era
This is where security got serious. Dodge added the Sentry Key Immobilizer Module, or SKIM, which reads a Texas Crypto 4D (ID4D64) chip inside your key before the engine will start. That means your key has to be both cut to fit the ignition and electronically programmed to match your van's computer. We handle both steps in your driveway using OBD-II programming and PIN extraction.
Platform Transition
The 2007 model year was a crossover point. Some 2007 Caravans rolled out on the new RT platform with remote head keys, while others stayed on the older RS setup. Both still use the Texas Crypto 4D (ID4D64) chip and SKIM immobilizer. We verify your exact configuration before we cut anything.
Which Key Does Your Caravan Use?

SKIM Module Failure
The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module in your 2001-2007 Caravan is the gatekeeper between key and engine computer. When it fails, even a good key gets rejected. We test the SKIM on-site and can reprogram or replace it in your Oxnard or Camarillo driveway.
Transponder Key Chip Failure
Before recommending a new key, we test the chip. The Texas Crypto 4D (ID4D64) transponder in your 2001-2007 Caravan degrades over time. If the chip is dead, the SKIM cannot read it and your van will not start. We cut and program in under 30 minutes.
Remote Fob Battery Drain and Signal Loss
Remote buttons stop working and you assume the fob is broken. Usually it is just a dead CR2032 or contact corrosion. We pop it open, clean contacts, swap the battery. If the board is fried, we program a new remote in your Simi Valley driveway.
Ignition Cylinder Wear
Owners think they need a new key when the real problem is a worn ignition cylinder. On high-mileage Caravans, the wafers wear until the key sticks. We replace the cylinder on-site and rekey to match your existing key, so no new set needed.
Can You Program a Caravan Key Yourself?
Your 1995 Caravan has no transponder and no immobilizer. There is nothing to program. You just need a key cut to fit the ignition, and any locksmith or even a hardware store can handle that.
If you already have two working transponder keys, you can program a third one yourself using the on-board procedure. Insert the first key, turn to ON for 3 to 15 seconds, switch to the second key, then insert the new key and wait for the chime. If you only have one key or zero keys, you need a locksmith with PIN extraction tools.
You can pair an additional remote yourself if you have one working remote. Turn the ignition to ON, hold the unlock button on your existing remote for five seconds, press panic once, and listen for the chime. This only programs the remote buttons. It does not program the transponder chip.
