Remote plus metal key
The 1995 Town & Country paired a plain metal key with a separate keyless entry remote. The key itself has no electronics, so cutting a spare is straightforward, and the remote runs on a CR2016 coin-cell battery that owners can swap themselves. If the remote stops responding after a battery change, it usually just needs to be paired to the vehicle again. We cut these keys by code or from a worn original and can supply and pair replacement remotes at your location anywhere in Ventura County.
Plain metal key years
From 1996 through 2000 the Town & Country used a plain metal key with no chip and no programming. That makes this the simplest era to service: we cut a fresh key from your original, or by code if every key is gone, and you're back on the road in minutes. The catch with metal-only keys is wear. Copies made from tired originals inherit every flaw, so if your key needs jiggling to turn, have a new one cut from code rather than duplicated. We carry the right blanks on the truck.
Transponder key arrives
Starting in 2001 the Town & Country added a transponder chip inside the key head, while keyless entry stayed on a separate remote with a CR2016 battery. A bare metal copy from a hardware store will turn the ignition but won't start the vehicle, which catches a lot of owners off guard. We cut the blade and program the chip in one visit, and we can pair a replacement remote at the same time. If you've got one working key, adding a spare is quick; if you've got none, we handle that too.
Remote head key era
From 2004 through 2007 the Town & Country moved to a remote head key, with the remote buttons, the transponder, and the metal blade all built into one unit running on a CR2032 battery. One piece of hardware does everything, which is convenient right up until it's lost, because you're replacing the cut, the chip pairing, and the remote functions at the same time. Smart key joins the lineup
From 2008 on, the Town & Country offered a smart key alongside the remote head key, so two very different keys exist for the same years. The smart key is a proximity fob with a CR2032 battery and an emergency blade tucked inside for the door. Which one your vehicle takes depends on how it was equipped, so check your current key before ordering anything online. Remote stopped responding
Nine times out of ten it's the coin-cell battery: CR2016 in the early separate remotes, CR2032 in remote head keys and smart keys. Swap it first. If the buttons still do nothing, the remote may have lost its pairing or the contacts inside have worn out. We test, re-pair, or replace it at your location.
Key turns but won't start
On 2001 and newer keys, a blade that turns the ignition while the engine refuses to start usually points at the transponder. Unprogrammed chips, damaged chips, or a copy that was never paired to the vehicle all behave this way. We sort out which it is onsite and program the key properly so the vehicle recognizes it.
Worn or sticky key
Two decades of pocket time grinds a blade down, and a worn key starts needing a wiggle before it turns. Don't keep copying a tired key; every duplicate inherits the wear. We cut fresh keys to factory code so the new one works like the original did on day one.
Broken key in the lock
Blades snap, usually at the worst moment, and the broken half stays jammed in the door or ignition. Don't dig at it with pliers; pushing it deeper makes extraction harder. We pull the fragment, cut a fresh key, and program it if your year needs a chip, all in one visit.
Can You Program a Town & Country Key Yourself?
If your Town & Country is a 1995 to 2000 model, the metal key itself needs no programming; an accurate cut is the whole job. From 2001 onward there's a transponder in the key, and from 2008 the smart key option adds proximity electronics. Pairing any of those to the vehicle takes dedicated programming equipment, which is not something that comes in the glovebox.
