Got a call from a guy near CSU Channel Islands in Camarillo. He'd driven his 1997 Dodge Caravan to campus for a work event and somewhere between the parking lot and the building, his only key fell off the ring. Gone. Searched the grass, retraced his steps twice, nothing.

Second-generation Caravan, so the security is all mechanical. I pulled the door code from the lock cylinder, cut a Y155 blank on my mobile machine, and tested it in the door, the ignition, and the glovebox.
Turned over on the first try. He just kind of stood there for a second, like he expected it to be harder than that.
The whole thing took maybe twenty minutes from the time I parked. No tow truck, no waiting room at the dealer, no rental car. He drove himself home that afternoon. For a fraction of what the tow alone would have cost, the problem was done right there in the lot.
