About Scion Keys

Scion vehicles ran Toyota's key systems from day one, which means every tC, xB, FR-S, and xD on Southern California roads programs the same way as its Toyota twin. We program Scion keys on-site using Toyota Techstream-compatible tools, with the correct blanks in hand, at a fraction of what a Toyota dealer charges.
Scion Key Programming Using Toyota-Compatible Tools

Scion never built its own key systems. Every Scion sold in the United States ran Toyota's immobilizer architecture from launch in 2004 through the brand's final model year in 2016. The xA and xB used Toyota Yaris and bB platforms with ID33 and ID47 transponder chips. The tC used its own platform but the same Toyota immobilizer system. The FR-S shared programming with the Subaru BRZ but primarily follows Toyota's OBD-II approach. All of these program through Toyota Techstream or compatible tools like Autel IM608, and all require either a working master key or a PIN code obtained through Toyota TIS for all-keys-lost situations. We handle Scion key service the same way we handle Toyota service, because technically it is Toyota service.

What We Bring for Scion Keys
For the tC, xB, xD, FR-S, and all other Scion models, we come to your location, bring the correct blank, and complete the job without a dealer visit.
What Makes Scion Keys Different

Scion is unusual in the world of automotive locksmithing for a simple reason: it is not really a brand in the technical sense. Every Scion sold in the United States was a rebadged Toyota built on Toyota platforms using Toyota systems. The xA was a Toyota ist. The xB first generation was a Toyota bB. The tC was a Toyota Blade. The FR-S shared DNA with the Subaru BRZ but followed Toyota's key programming architecture. The iM was a Toyota Auris. The iA was a Mazda2-based Toyota Yaris iA.

Why Locksmiths Get Scion Wrong
None of this was hidden, but many owners and even some locksmiths treat Scion as its own category requiring special parts or tools. It does not.

Every Scion Key Is a Toyota Key
Every Scion keys up, programs, and troubleshoots as a Toyota. The blanks come from Toyota inventory, the programming runs through Toyota Techstream, and the PIN codes come from Toyota TIS. The only thing that changed when Toyota discontinued the Scion brand in 2016 was the badge on the car. The key on your key ring has been a Toyota key the entire time.
Toyota Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

Toyota dealer programming labor alone runs $80 to $150, on top of OEM key fob parts that cost $120 to $160. Mobile locksmiths who service Scion vehicles regularly advertise $70 to $350 depending on model and key type, with the full job completed at your location. We come to you with the right blank and handle everything in one visit.

Pro Tip

If you own a first-generation Scion tC from 2005 through 2010 and the key is starting to stick in the ignition, address it before it becomes a full no-start or a broken key in the cylinder. The tC first-gen lock cylinder has a well-documented tendency to bind as it accumulates wear, and the progression typically goes from occasional stickiness to requiring a hard turn to requiring the steering wheel trick to eventually not turning at all. A light application of dry graphite lubricant in the key slot, not WD-40 or oil which attract debris, can extend the cylinder's useful life significantly. Silicone spray is an acceptable alternative.

Signs Your tC Key Blade Is Worn
If the key is already leaving small metal shavings when you pull it out, the blade is beginning to round and a new cut key should be made before the worn blade further damages the cylinder tumblers. We carry tC blanks for both generations and can cut and program a fresh key on-site before the old one fails completely.
Scion Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
