It depends on the year and model. Pre-1998 Mazdas use standard mechanical keys with no chip. From 1998 through roughly 2013, most Mazdas use an ID46 transponder chip key that must be programmed to the vehicle's immobilizer. From 2010 onward, higher trims and newer models added proximity push-to-start with smart fobs. The 2017 and newer models moved to an ID70 encrypted chip. One exception: the NC Miata from 2006 through 2015 uses a Ford PATS 4D63 chip from the Mazda-Ford partnership era, which requires different tooling. Advanced Keyless Entry is Mazda's branded name for their passive entry and push-button start system. The fob communicates with the vehicle passively so the doors unlock as you approach and the engine starts when you press the brake and push the button. Mazda and Ford had a significant engineering partnership during the 2000s, and the NC-generation MX-5 Miata from 2006 through 2015 was built on shared platform architecture that included Ford's PATS transponder system with a 4D63 chip. This means the NC Miata programs more like a Ford than a Mazda and requires Ford PATS compatible tooling. The earlier NB generation from 1999 through 2005 uses Mazda's own ID46 chip, and the ND generation from 2016 onward is back on Mazda's own ID70 system. Yes, for most Mazda models. For 2005 through 2016 models using ID46 or ID47 chips, all-keys-lost is handled on site via OBD programming with a PIN pulled from the vehicle's BCM. For 2017 and newer models with ID70 chips, the process requires online authentication through Mazda's diagnostic system, which our tooling supports. We will confirm the specific process and what is involved before starting the job. No towing is required for the vast majority of Mazda all-keys-lost situations.

A red KEY warning light or an amber flashing push-button start indicator means the vehicle is not detecting your key fob, usually because the fob battery is low or dead. On all Mazda push-to-start models the fix is to hold the fob directly against the push-button start with the emblem centered on the button until a green light appears, then press the button normally while holding the brake. This works because the vehicle reads the fob's passive RFID chip without needing battery power. Once moving, replace the CR2025 battery in the fob as soon as possible.

For most 2005 through 2016 Mazda models, yes, provided the FCC ID on the key matches your vehicle. The WAZX1T768SKE11A03 platform covers the Mazda3 and CX-9 from 2010 through 2013. For 2017 and newer models with ID70 chips, the WAZSKE11D01 platform covers the current Mazda3, CX-30, CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90. Any Mazda built after 1997 has a transponder chip that must be programmed to the vehicle's immobilizer in addition to being cut to the correct blade profile. A correctly cut key with an unprogrammed chip will turn in the ignition but the engine will not start. From 2014 onward, Mazda models require dealer-level tools or equivalent aftermarket equipment for programming and cannot be done with basic OBD scanners.
