How the CX-30 Key System Has Evolved
1st Generation (DM)
A proximity smart key with a 3-button layout and a hidden high-security emergency blade tucked inside the fob. Your CX-30 uses a HITAG-AES (6A) transponder chip, which is one of the more advanced chips on the road today. Push-button start is standard, and programming requires a professional scan tool; there is no shortcut around it.
1st Generation Facelift (DM)
Same HITAG-AES (6A) chip and same platform, but Mazda added a fourth button to the fob for the facelift models. The part number shifted to DGY2-67-5DYB, so ordering the right blank matters. Everything else works the same way: scan tool programming, CR2032 battery, high-security blade inside.
1st Generation Updated (DM)
The 2025 keeps the HITAG-AES (6A) chip and goes back to a 3-button smart key layout. Firmware updates on these newer models can occasionally affect scan tool compatibility, so we verify our software is current before every 2025 job. Same push-button start, same CR2032 battery, same quality key.
Which Key Does Your CX-30 Use?
This is a proximity fob. You keep it in your pocket, walk up to the car, and it unlocks. Push the start button with your foot on the brake and you are driving.
Same proximity smart key as the earlier models, but with an extra button. The fob part number changed for these years, so make sure any replacement matches the DGY2-67-5DYB spec.
Back to three buttons for 2025, but the same HITAG-AES chip and push-button start system. Looks nearly identical to the 2020-2022 fob.

Common CX-30 Key Problems
Transponder Programming Requires Scan Tool
Press start, nothing. Or the immobilizer light stays on. Your CX-30 uses a HITAG-AES (6A) chip that can't be programmed through DIY or basic OBD-II readers. We bring Autel IM608 and VVDI tools and handle the full programming on-site.
Smart Key Battery Drain
The CR2032 in your CX-30 fob polls constantly, even unused. Cells can die in under two years if you park near other wireless devices. Mazda TSB (01-014/21) covers 2020-2023 models with low fob batteries causing entry and start failures.
Auxiliary Key Blade Wear
Before recommending a full key replacement, we check the emergency blade first. The high-security blade inside your CX-30 fob wears faster than a standard key. A worn blade in the door cylinder damages the cylinder, so we cut a fresh one.
Keyless Entry Signal Interference
CX-30 owners in Oxnard and Camarillo say the fob stopped working. Usually it's not. Your smart key runs 315MHz, crowded near cell towers, commercial buildings, and LED lighting. Move twenty feet away and it works. A Faraday pouch helps.
Can You Program a CX-30 Key Yourself?
No DIY self-programming procedure exists for these years. The HITAG-AES (6A) chip and Mazda's Advanced Keyless Entry system require professional diagnostic equipment. You need a licensed locksmith or a dealer.
The 2025 model uses updated security protocols that require Mazda's MDARS factory software and a compatible VCI device. There is no owner-level programming option. Professional programming is mandatory.
