I was out in the Upper East neighborhood of Santa Barbara on an unrelated job when my phone buzzed with a new request. A guy had picked up a used 2024 CX-30 a while back and had been driving it on the single smart key that came with it. No spare. That one-key situation is fine until it isn't, and for him it became a problem when the fob started acting inconsistent. Range dropped off, the door handle touch function got flaky, and he wasn't sure if the fob was dying or if something else was going on.

Lock, unlock, the remaining buttons, the touch handles on both sides, and confirming the vehicle security system recognized the new key alongside the original.
He mentioned he had called the dealer before reaching out to me. They told him to bring it in, leave it for a couple of hours, and they'd need to check parts availability first. He didn't have half a weekday to give up. We finished the whole thing on the street in front of his house for a fraction of what they wanted.
