About Porsche Keys

Porsche's Entry & Drive smart key system runs across the 911, Cayenne, Macan, Panamera, and Taycan. We program replacement keys and fobs using PIWIS-compatible tools on site, without the weeks-long dealer wait.
Porsche Entry & Drive Programming Without the Dealer Backlog

Porsche has used a distinct key system for every generation of every model it has built. The 964 was the first Porsche with an integrated immobilizer. The 993 added a remote fob. The 996 and 997 brought rolling-code encryption.

Entry and Drive Era Programming
Starting around 2008 to 2010, the 911, Cayenne, Panamera, and eventually the Macan and Taycan moved to Porsche's Entry & Drive system: proximity smart keys with push-button start that require PIWIS-compatible programming to pair. Late-model all-keys-lost situations on these vehicles require reading the BCM directly, which is board-level work that goes well beyond a standard OBD connection. We carry the tools to handle it and we come to your location. No 4-week dealer backlog, no tow, and no $2,000 estimate before they even look at the car.
What the Porsche Dealer Experience Is Really Like

Getting a replacement Porsche key from a dealer in Southern California is a multi-step process that typically takes far longer than most owners expect. The first appointment is a diagnostic visit at $150 to $250, where the service advisor verifies the VIN, confirms immobilizer status, and determines what key hardware is needed. OEM Porsche smart keys must be ordered as factory parts and delivery alone can take days to weeks. Once the part arrives, a programming appointment is scheduled separately.

All-Keys-Lost at the Dealer
For all-keys-lost situations on Entry & Drive models, the car must be towed to the dealer facility because BCM access requires the vehicle to be present throughout the process. Dealers in the LA area frequently quote 1 to 4 weeks from first call to working key in hand. Total out-of-pocket runs $500 to $1,000 for a standard smart key replacement and $2,000 or more for all-keys-lost on current-generation models.

Our On-Site Alternative
We do the same caliber of work on site using PIWIS-compatible tools, typically in a single visit of 1 to 2 hours, without a tow and without a month-long wait.
Porsche Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

Porsche dealers charge $500 to $1,000 for a programmed smart key and up to $2,000 or more for all-keys-lost service, with SoCal dealer wait times running 1 to 4 weeks. We handle the same work on site in a single visit.

What Makes Porsche Keys Different

Porsche key programming sits in a different category from most of the vehicles we service. The Entry & Drive system is not a Toyota transponder or a GM PK3 variant. It is Porsche's own immobilizer architecture, originally developed alongside Bosch and later evolved through the PIWIS diagnostic platform, which is Porsche's proprietary workshop software.

Why Generic Tools Won't Work
What this means in practice is that the tools and techniques that cover 90 percent of the cars on the road do not apply here. A locksmith showing up with a generic OBD programmer and an aftermarket fob blank will not be able to complete a Porsche key job. The ECU authentication process, the BCM data extraction required for all-keys-lost situations, and the proximity key pairing sequence all require tools built specifically for the Porsche platform.

Built for the Job, Not the Shortcut
The owner profile reinforces this: Porsche drivers are not primarily looking for the cheapest option. They want the job done correctly so a $100,000-plus car is not sitting stranded. We invested in the right equipment for exactly this reason, and we bring it to your location.
Pro Tip

Every Porsche Entry & Drive model has a backup start procedure for a dead fob battery. The procedure is the same across the 911, Cayenne, Macan, Panamera, and Taycan: remove the hidden mechanical key blade from the fob by sliding the small lever near the keyring end, use the blade to access the concealed door cylinder behind the cover on the driver door handle, then once inside, look for the ignition switch area near the Start/Stop button.

Starting Once You're Inside
There is a dummy key cover or slot in that area. Remove it and insert the fob body into the slot, or hold the dead fob directly against the Start/Stop button itself. Press the brake and press the button. The car reads the passive transponder chip in the fob at close range regardless of battery level.

Timing the Backup Start
You have about 10 to 15 seconds from the time you insert or hold the fob before the system times out, so have your foot on the brake before you place the fob. The dash warning 'Key not in vehicle' or 'Battery in key low' will appear when this procedure is needed.
Porsche Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
