About GMC Keys

GMC trucks and SUVs run on GM's key platform from classic VATS resistor keys through PK3 transponders, sidewinder flip fobs, and current proximity smart keys. Whether you drive a Sierra, Yukon, Acadia, Canyon, or Terrain, we carry the parts and tools to program your key on site without a dealer appointment.
Every GMC Key Type, Cut and Programmed On Site

GMC introduced transponder chip keys across the Sierra and Yukon lineup starting in 1997, with PK3 encrypted chips becoming standard by the early 2000s. The 2014 Sierra was a turning point, bringing the high-security sidewinder laser-cut flip key and proximity push-to-start to the full-size truck lineup. From 2017 onward, most GMC models require two working keys to add a third without triggering a full all-keys-lost reset, and all-keys-lost situations on any 2005 and newer GMC require a security PIN pulled from GM's Techline Connect server via VIN.

What We Bring to Your Location
We carry sidewinder blanks, proximity fobs, and transponder chips for every GMC generation, access the GM PIN system on site, and program keys to your truck or SUV through the OBD port without a tow or a dealer visit.
GMC Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

GMC dealerships charge $330 to $550 for a smart key replacement and $500 to $1,000 or more for an all-keys-lost job that requires towing the vehicle in and a $100 to $150 diagnostic fee before any work begins. We handle most GMC key jobs on site at your location for significantly less, with no tow, no diagnostic fee, and no multi-day wait.

Pro Tip

If you own a 2017 or newer GMC and currently have only one programmed key, get a spare made before you lose the one you have. Here is why this matters more for GMC than most other brands: from 2017 onward, GM's standard add-key procedure requires two working keys to add a third using the faster quick-learn method. If your single key is lost or damaged, you are looking at a full all-keys-lost job, which erases all prior keys, requires a Techline Connect PIN, takes significantly longer, and costs more than a simple add-key would have.

The Real Cost of Waiting
The cost difference between adding a spare now versus doing an all-keys-lost later is substantial.

Protecting Against Relay Theft
On the relay theft side, if you own a 2010 or newer Sierra or Yukon with keyless entry, a Faraday signal-blocking pouch costs a few dollars and takes the relay attack off the table entirely. GM has not issued a software fix for the vulnerability as of early 2026, despite a class-action lawsuit filed in June 2025 specifically over this issue on Sierra and Yukon models. The pouch is the most practical protection available right now.
GMC Key Fob Battery Guide

How to Open

Battery Type
All GMC proximity fobs from 2014 onward use a CR2032. Make sure to remove the blade first before prying the case, as trying to open the fob with the blade still seated can crack the housing. Clean dry hands matter more than most people realize when handling the new battery, as skin oils can corrode the contacts over time and cause earlier failure. On 2017 through 2019 Acadia fobs, the housing seam can crack if pried with a metal tool, so a plastic trim tool or a thick coin is the right approach. No reprogramming is needed after any battery swap on GMC proximity fobs.
GMC Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
