How Hummer EV Key Security Has Evolved
Pickup EV2/EV2X Launch
GM stepped into uncharted territory here with the BT1XX platform and its Global B Advanced immobilizer. Your pickup uses a 6-button smart key fob (FCC ID: YGOG21TB2) with no mechanical blade at all. Programming requires live server authentication through GM's systems, so there is no shortcut with a basic OBD clone tool.
Pickup EV3X Higher Trims
Same BT1XX platform, same 6-button smart key, same server-locked programming. GM kept the key system identical to the EV2X but added the higher trim content. The immobilizer is still Global B Advanced, which means every key replacement needs a live connection to GM's servers for authentication.
SUV EV2X Arrives
The SUV variant shares the same platform and electronics as the pickup. Your fob is the same proximity smart key with push-button start and no blade. GM locked programming to their servers on this one too, so dealer-level tools are the only path to a working key.
SUV EV3X and Edition 1
This is where GM went all-in on the premium trims. The key system mirrors the rest of the Hummer EV lineup: Global B Advanced immobilizer, server-only authentication, and zero mechanical backup. No DIY workarounds exist for these models.
Which Key Does Your Hummer EV Use?
A rectangular proximity fob with six buttons including dedicated eTrunk and tailgate controls. No metal key inside. You just carry it and press the push-button start.
Identical smart key to the EV2X pickup. Same fob, same buttons, same proximity entry system. The higher trim does not change the key hardware.
The SUV version uses the same proximity smart key platform as the pickup. No blade, no hidden keyhole on the vehicle. Everything is keyless.
Top-tier SUV trim with the same smart key system. Proximity entry and push-button start only. Programming is server-authenticated through GM.
What Your Hummer EV Key Costs

EZ Car Keyz vs. the Dealer
Over 1,000 five-star reviews say it better than we can. Here is how we stack up.
Common Hummer EV Key Problems
Smart Key Battery Drain
Constant communication between fob and the Hummer EV's app and remote start drains the CR2032 fast. Dying every few weeks is normal. Replace the battery; if it keeps happening, bring the fob so we can check the internal circuit for excess draw.
Key Recognition Failure in Cold Weather
Your Hummer EV won't detect the fob on a cold Ojai morning, button press does nothing. The Global B immobilizer can lose its handshake with the smart key in low temps. Holding the fob against push-start works; if it keeps happening, system may need a reflash.
Remote Start Malfunction
People blame the fob when remote start stops; usually it isn't. The 6-button fob's remote start uses OnStar integration, and firmware glitches on 2023-2025 models cause intermittent failures. A GM software update resolves it. We diagnose fob vs vehicle first.
Prox Sensor False Rejects
On this one we check the door handle sensors first. Hummer EV push-start rejects a perfectly good fob and 9/10 it is dirt or grime on the capacitive sensors. Clean with a damp cloth. If it continues, the sensor may need recalibration on-site.
Can You Program a Hummer EV Key Yourself?
No self-programming available. The Global B Advanced immobilizer requires live GM server authentication. You need professional tools and a NASTF Vehicle Security Professional credential to program a key to this truck.
Same server-locked system as the EV2X. There is no on-board programming procedure, no two-key trick, and no workaround. Professional equipment and GM server access are required.
The SUV shares the same locked-down key system as the pickup. No DIY path exists. Programming requires GM SPS through Techline Connect and a compatible diagnostic interface.
Server-only authentication on every trim. No self-programming, no aftermarket shortcuts. This one needs a licensed professional with GM dealer-level tools.
