How Yukon XL Keys Changed Over the Years
3rd Gen Facelift, Smart Key Era
GMC stepped things up here with a full proximity smart key system using a Philips ID46 (PCF7937E) transponder chip and the PASS-Key III+ immobilizer. Your Yukon XL got push-button start, passive entry, and a high-security blade tucked inside the fob. On-board programming is possible if you already have two working keys, but all-keys-lost situations need professional diagnostic tools.
3rd Gen Facelift 2, Platform Transition
The key itself looks and works the same as the 2015-2018, still running the Philips ID46 (PCF7937E) chip with PASS-Key III+ security. What changed is under the hood: GMC began transitioning from the K2XX to the T1XX platform, which can affect how programming tools communicate with the vehicle. Same CR2032 battery, same M3N-32337100 FCC ID, same 4-button smart fob. We just verify your exact platform before we start.
Base 3rd Gen Reference Models
Some 2015-2020 Yukon XL trims came with a slightly different setup: an ID46 chip, 3-button smart fob, and laser-cut blade running the standard PASS-Key III system. These require OBD-II programming rather than the on-board method. We verify your exact configuration by VIN before we roll out so we bring the right blank and the right approach.
4th Gen (T1XX, Global B)
The T1XX redesign brought a new key. Your Yukon XL now runs a 6-button proximity smart fob with FCC YG0G21TB2, an NXP HITAG-Pro (ID49) chip, and a CR2450 battery on GM's Global B architecture. A high-security emergency blade hides inside. Programming authenticates through GM's online servers, and we handle that on-site with current firmware.
Which Key Does Your Yukon XL Use?
This is the most common Yukon XL key. A chunky fob with push-button start, a hidden emergency blade inside, and passive entry that unlocks when you grab the door handle.
Identical fob to the 2015-2018 models. Same FCC ID, same chip, same blade. The only difference is the platform under the vehicle, which we verify before programming.
Found on certain base or fleet trims. A 3-button fob with a laser-cut blade and ID46 chip. Requires OBD-II programming instead of the on-board method.
The T1XX redesign fob. A 6-button proximity smart key with push-button start and a hidden high-security emergency blade. It carries an NXP HITAG-Pro (ID49) chip on a CR2450 battery, FCC YG0G21TB2, and programs through GM server authentication on-site.
How Much Does a Yukon XL Key Cost?
All prices include the key blank, cutting, programming, and testing on-site at your location.

Need more than one key? We cut the price on each additional key because the programming is already done.
Common Yukon XL Key Problems
Key Fob Battery Drain
Proximity in your Yukon XL constantly pings your smart key even when parked. That is why CR2032s drain faster than expected, especially on Denali trims with more active sensors. Replacing every few months is normal. We check whether drain rate is within spec.
Transponder Slot Failure
Your 2018-2020 Yukon XL has a key slot in the center console where the fob sits for transponder reading. Truck won't start with a fine battery, or refuses programming. Debris, lint, and wear inside that slot are the culprit. We clean and test first.
Programming Lockout
People think the Yukon XL is broken when it actually locked them out of the programming sequence. Usually someone tries the on-board relearn without two working keys, or timing got interrupted. Not damage. We reset it with the Autel IM608 through OBD-II.
FCC ID Mismatch
We check FCC ID first on every aftermarket fob before programming. Your Yukon XL needs M3N-32337100, and many cheap online fobs have the wrong ID. They look identical, but the vehicle rejects them. Bought one that won't program? That is almost always why.
Can You Program a Yukon XL Key Yourself?
Yes, but only the remote lock/unlock and entry functions. You need at least one working programmed fob, and the process involves three 10-minute wait cycles using the push-button start sequence. This does NOT program the transponder chip for engine start. If you need a key that actually starts the truck, you need professional programming.
If you have two already-programmed keys, you can add a third using the quick key-swap relearn method. You insert the first key, turn to ON, remove it, insert the second, turn to ON, remove it, then insert the new key within 5 seconds. If you have fewer than two working keys, this method will not work and you need a locksmith with OBD-II tools.

Did You Know?
You would not guess it, but the 2015 Yukon XL was the first model year to get proximity smart keys with passive entry. That means you could walk up to the door, touch the handle, and it would unlock without ever pressing a button on the fob. Before 2015, every Yukon XL required you to physically press the unlock button or use the key blade. It was a bigger deal than it sounds.
