2017 GMC Yukon Xl
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2017 GMC Yukon Xl Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Rancho Conejo called on a Saturday afternoon with a specific kind of bad luck. He drove for a rideshare platform and used his 2017 GMC Yukon XL every day.

He bought it used with one key, told himself he'd get a spare made, and never got around to it. Three years later, the fob housing cracked at the hinge point and the blade separated from the body. Remote half in one hand, blade jammed in the ignition, car full of gear he needed to move.

Zero working keys.

I got to him in Rancho Conejo and the first thing I checked was the chip inside the cracked housing. Even with the plastic destroyed, the chip was intact. That mattered because it meant I could read the transponder data from the broken fob directly instead of running a full all-keys-lost reset. All-keys-lost on these takes longer and costs more, so salvaging that data was real value for him.

I pulled the jammed blade, decoded the lock, and cut two new keys. The existing chip data went into fresh hardware, and I verified both fobs before I handed them over. Walked every button, tested the doors, confirmed the vehicle recognized both keys cleanly.

He went from nothing to two working keys in about 40 minutes. Dealer had already quoted him a number that made him wince, no flexibility, and they couldn't see him until Tuesday. We were done before his next shift started.

He asked me on the way out why he waited three years to get a spare. I told him everyone asks that after the one key breaks.
