About Toyota Keys

Toyota has been one of the most common vehicles in Southern California for decades, and the Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Tacoma, and 4Runner cover the full range from basic ID46 transponder keys to encrypted G-chip smart keys requiring a Toyota seed-key PIN to program. We carry the parts and tools to handle every generation on site at your location.
Every Toyota Key Type, Programmed On Site Without a Dealer Appointment

Toyota introduced transponder chip keys in 1997 on the Camry and 1998 across most of the rest of the lineup, with the ID46 chip becoming the standard platform through the mid-2000s. Remote head keys arrived on the Camry and 4Runner in the early 2000s, and flip fobs followed in 2004.

The Smart Key System Era
Proximity push-to-start, which Toyota calls the Smart Key System, rolled out model by model starting with premium models around 2007 and reaching the Camry in 2012, Corolla in 2014, Tacoma in 2016, and Tundra by 2022. The 2010 and newer models use Toyota's G-chip encrypted transponder, which requires a seed-key PIN obtained from Toyota's server to program any new key, including all-keys-lost situations.

How We Handle Toyota G-Chip Keys
We access that PIN through our Toyota Techstream setup and Autel tooling, handle the full programming sequence on site, and get you moving without a tow or a dealer appointment.
Toyota Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

Toyota dealerships charge $330 to $1,000 for a smart key replacement and $500 to $1,000 or more for an all-keys-lost job that typically requires towing the vehicle in and paying a $100 to $150 diagnostic fee before any work starts. One Corolla owner was quoted close to $1,000 for an all-keys-lost job at the dealer. We handle most Toyota key jobs on site at your location for significantly less, with no tow and no diagnostic fee.

How Toyota Keys Have Changed Over the Years

Security Notice for Toyota Owners

Toyota owners should know about two separate security vulnerabilities that affect a significant portion of the brand's vehicles on Southern California roads.

The DST80 Chip Vulnerability
The first is a documented flaw in the DST80 transponder chip used on Camry, Corolla, and RAV4 models from roughly 2007 through 2019. Researchers demonstrated that the encryption implementation uses low-randomness cryptographic keys that can be extracted using an RFID reader called a Proxmark, allowing the immobilizer to be bypassed entirely. Toyota has acknowledged the issue but states that current production vehicles use different configurations, leaving hundreds of thousands of older vehicles without a patch or retrofit.

CAN Bus Injection Attacks
The second vulnerability involves the CAN bus communication system on certain Toyota models, where thieves can plug a device into the vehicle's OBD port or headlight wiring harness to inject fake messages that bypass the immobilizer and allow the vehicle to start without any key at all. This attack has been used in vehicle thefts in multiple countries and has prompted Toyota to add CAN bus encryption to newer Land Cruiser and Hilux models.

How To Protect Your Toyota
For owners of affected older vehicles, the most effective countermeasures are a secondary aftermarket immobilizer that requires a separate PIN to start the vehicle, combined with storing key fobs in a Faraday pouch overnight to block relay amplification. A visible steering wheel lock adds a deterrence layer that relay thieves typically skip. If you drive a pre-2020 Camry, Corolla, or RAV4 and park regularly in high-traffic urban areas, these steps are worth taking seriously.
Toyota Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
