The G-chip is Toyota's encrypted transponder chip used on most 2010 and newer models. Unlike the earlier ID46 chip, which could be cloned with the right equipment, the G-chip uses rolling code encryption that requires a unique seed-key PIN generated from your vehicle's VIN and immobilizer data. Without that PIN, the key cannot be programmed, and that PIN must be pulled from Toyota's server using authorized diagnostic access. We have Toyota Techstream setup and Autel IM608 tooling that retrieves this PIN on site, meaning we can program G-chip keys without a dealer visit for most 2010 through 2022 models.

Yes, for most generations. First and second-generation Tacomas from 1998 through 2015 use an ID46 transponder that we program on site via OBD. The third-generation Tacoma from 2016 onward uses the G-chip Smart Key System, which we handle using our Techstream and Autel tooling with a server-retrieved PIN. Tundras from 2004 through 2021 use ID46 or 4D chips and are straightforward on-site jobs. The 2022 and newer Tundra uses the current Smart Key platform and is also supported. In most cases, yes. For 1998 through 2009 Toyotas with ID46 or 4D chips, all-keys-lost is handled on site using OBD tools or an ignition jumper sequence depending on the generation. For 2010 through approximately 2022 models with G-chip encryption, we pull a seed-key PIN from Toyota's server via our Techstream setup and program new keys through the OBD port. For 2021 and newer models including the current Tundra and Prius Prime, dealer server access may be required for all-keys-lost situations, and we will confirm upfront whether your specific vehicle is covered before starting the job.

Pull out the hidden mechanical blade from the fob by pressing the small release button, and use it to manually unlock the driver's door. The alarm may sound briefly but will stop once you start the car. Get in, close the door, and hold the dead fob with the Toyota logo side touching the push-button start switch. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly, then push the start button normally. The vehicle reads the fob's passive transponder chip through a coil inside the button without needing battery power. Once started, replace the CR2032 battery in the fob as soon as possible. No reprogramming is needed after a battery swap.

A correct CR2032 battery swap should not require any reprogramming. If the fob is not being detected after a fresh battery, the most common causes are a battery installed with incorrect polarity, dirty or bent contact springs inside the fob, or signal interference from electronics in the car or nearby. On 2010 and newer Toyotas, the fob can lose sync with the Smart Key receiver in rare cases after a battery change, which requires a brief reprogramming step via OBD rather than a new key. We can diagnose the difference on site.

For most 2003 through 2017 Toyotas using HYQ-series remote head keys or flip fobs, yes, provided the FCC ID matches your vehicle. The HYQ12BBY covers the 4Runner, RAV4, Highlander, and Yaris from 2010 through 2015. For 2017 and newer Smart Key models, compatibility is tighter and the seed-key PIN must be retrieved from Toyota's server regardless of where the key was purchased.
