About Hummer Keys

The Hummer H2 and H3 run GM's Passlock and PK3 transponder systems, the same platforms under a Chevy Tahoe or GMC Canyon. We program Hummer keys on-site using GM-compatible tools, without the tow, for H1, H2, H3, and the current GMC Hummer EV lineup.
Hummer Key Programming Done at Your Location

Hummer built its H2 and H3 on the same GM truck platforms as the Tahoe and Colorado, which means the key and immobilizer systems are GM through and through. The H2 ran non-transponder keys through 2004, added PK3 transponder chips from 2005 onward, and introduced smart proximity fobs on 2008 and 2009 models. The H3 launched with transponders standard in 2006 and followed the same 2008 proximity fob rollout. The H1 kept basic metal keys and fixed-code remote fobs for its entire run, with no transponder at all on most civilian models.

On-Site Hummer Key Service
We use Autel IM608 and GM Tech2-compatible tools that handle all-keys-lost programming on H2 and H3 models on-site without towing. The H1 is even more straightforward, requiring a simple key cut with no programming. For the current GMC Hummer EV with its Ultium platform proximity fobs, we also carry the correct blanks and handle programming using updated GM tools.
What Makes Hummer Keys Different

Hummer stands out in the locksmith world primarily because of the H1, which is one of the very few American-market vehicles from the 1990s and 2000s that never received an electronic immobilizer. The H1 was derived directly from the military HMMWV, and AM General built the civilian version with the same basic mechanical philosophy. While GM was rolling out PASS-Key transponder chips across its passenger car lineup through the mid-1990s, the H1 stayed on basic metal keys and eventually added fixed-code remote fobs for convenience, but no transponder chip tied to the ECU.

What H1 Key Service Looks Like
This means H1 key service is one of the simplest jobs in automotive locksmithing: cut the blade to the correct H1 profile and you are done. No immobilizer, no programming, no PIN.

H2 and H3 Are Standard GM
The H2 and H3 that followed were entirely different, built on GM truck platforms with all of GM's standard transponder and Passlock architecture, but the H1 remains the rare example of a late-production American vehicle with no electronic key security at all.
Hummer Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

Dealer pricing for Hummer EV smart key service runs $300 to $400 for the fob alone, with towing typically required since the vehicle needs to be present for programming. We come to your location for the H2, H3, and EV, bring the right blank, and complete the job without a tow.

Pro Tip

If your Hummer H3 starts giving you the Passlock security no-start and you do the 10-minute reset every time, there is a practical sequence worth knowing before you replace the sensor. After the 10-minute cycle restores start function, drive the vehicle for at least 10 minutes without turning it off. This gives the Passlock module a full operating cycle to re-establish its baseline resistance reading with the ignition sensor in a warm, stabilized state. Cold starts are when Passlock sensors fail most often because the resistance value the sensor reads changes with temperature, and an aging sensor that reads correctly when warm may fall out of tolerance when cold.

Diagnosing a Worn Sensor
If the no-start only happens on first cold starts but not after the vehicle has been running, the sensor is the problem rather than the key or the BCM. Replacing the ignition cylinder sensor is a straightforward job that costs $50 to $100 in parts and permanently ends the reset cycle.
Hummer Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
