About Ram Keys

Ram trucks run the Sentry Key Immobilizer System and Enter-N-Go proximity entry across the 1500, 2500, and 3500 lineup. Whether you drive a fourth-gen Laramie with a Fobik key or a fifth-gen Limited with push-button start, we program Ram keys on-site at your location, no tow required.
Ram Sentry Key and Proximity Fob Programming, On the Spot

Ram has used its Sentry Key Immobilizer System since 1998, and every Ram truck built after that year requires a programmed transponder to start the engine. Third-generation Ram 1500 and HD models from 2002 through 2008 use TI 46 and ID47 transponder chips with integrated remote fobs that we cut and program via OBD-II. Fourth-generation trucks from 2009 through 2018 introduced Fobik integrated smart keys on the 1500 and then Enter-N-Go proximity entry on higher trims starting in 2013, all of which we handle on-site.

How We Program Ram Keys On Site
Fifth-generation Ram 1500 and HD models from 2019 onward use encrypted proximity smart keys that require PIN-authenticated BCM programming, and we carry Autel IM608 and compatible FCA programmers that read that PIN directly from the vehicle without a dealer visit. For all-keys-lost situations on most Ram models from 2009 through 2024, we complete the job at your location without towing.
Ram Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

Ram dealers charge significantly more for key replacement than a qualified mobile locksmith, with independent locksmiths advertising up to 50 to 80 percent savings on Ram transponder and proximity key service. We arrive with the right blank, cut it, and program it at your location for one flat price with no tow and no surprise fees.

What to Do When Your Ram Fob Dies

Find the hidden mechanical blade inside the fob. Press the release button on the side or corner of the fob and pull the blade out. It slides out of a slot on the side of the fob housing. You will need this to unlock the door.

Locate the door keyhole. On most Ram models it is visible on the driver's door handle or covered by a small cap that you pop off with the blade tip. Insert and turn the blade to unlock manually. Using the blade to unlock will trigger the alarm, but the alarm will stop once you start the truck.

Get in and press the brake pedal firmly.

Hold the dead fob directly against the push-button Start/Stop switch on the dashboard. The button contains an antenna that can read the passive transponder chip inside the fob without any battery power. On 2013 through 2018 models, the start button is typically on the right side of the dash near the steering column. On 2019 and newer models it is on the center dash area. Keep the fob in contact with the button and press it. The truck should start normally. If it does not start on the first attempt, reposition the fob slightly and try again. The antenna range is small.
Pro Tip

Ram changed the battery type in its fobs between generations in a way that catches a lot of owners off guard. Fourth-gen Ram 1500 and HD fobs from 2009 through roughly 2021 use a CR2032 coin cell. Newer fifth-gen fobs from around 2022 onward, including the current 1500, 2500, and 3500, shifted to a CR2450, which is the same diameter but about twice as thick and stores more power.

Wrong Battery, Wrong Fit
If you put a CR2032 into a fob that takes a CR2450, it will sit loosely and make poor contact, causing intermittent detection failures that look exactly like a receiver problem or a dead fob. Check the battery size before you assume the fob is defective. The FCC ID printed on the back of your fob can also be used to look up the correct battery spec if you are not sure which generation you have.
Ram Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
