2019 GMC Yukon Xl
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2019 GMC Yukon Xl Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a home health aide working out of a mobile home park in the Oaks Mall area of Thousand Oaks. She had one key for her 2019 Yukon XL, and that morning it stopped being recognized.

Push-button start just sat there. No response from the door handles. She had a full patient schedule starting in under an hour and was already mentally rearranging her day and looking up tow companies.

I told her to stay put.

When I pulled up, she was sitting on her front steps with her phone out, stress-scrolling. The Yukon XL was in the carport with the windows up and nothing happening.

I connected my diagnostic tool to the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the GM smart key system. This generation of Yukon XL stores key data in the body control module, so when all keys are gone, the process involves clearing that stored data, running through the security handshake, and enrolling the new fob fresh. There's a timed portion built into the procedure. You can't rush it. I cut the new emergency blade to match the vehicle, assembled the fob, and finished enrollment.

First press of the start button, the dash lit up and the engine turned over.

She didn't say anything for a second. Just looked at the dash like she was waiting for it to take it back.

She made her first patient visit on time. The dealer would have required a tow, an appointment, and probably a day or two out. She paid a fraction of what that would have cost, without leaving her carport.
