If the fob battery runs completely flat rather than just going low, the smart key module can lose sync with the vehicle and require a resync cycle to reconnect. This is different from a normal low-battery situation. The resync does not require a new key or new programming, just an OBD-II reconnect sequence. A new CR2032 battery alone will not always restore function if the module lost contact during a full discharge. We resync on-site quickly without any new key cutting involved.
