First Generation (IG)
You push a button to start this car, but there is a high security emergency blade tucked inside the fob for when the battery dies. The 2019 to 2020 models use a 4-button smart key with a CR2032 battery. Programming requires both OBD-II diagnostics and Genesis server authentication, so there is no shortcut around professional equipment.
Facelift (IG Refresh)
Genesis added a fifth button for remote start and switched some fobs to a CR2450 battery, though some still use CR2032. The security architecture also got tighter here. A security gateway module now sits between our tools and the car's computer, which means we need updated software to get through it. Still very doable on-site, just takes the right gear.
Second Facelift (PE2)
This is where things got serious. The 2024 G70 runs FCC ID TQ8-FOB-4F75M44, a 5-button smart key with a CR2450 battery and full server-based authentication. Genesis also introduced Digital Key 2 Touch for NFC phones. We can handle add-a-key situations, but all-keys-lost on the 2024 may require dealer server access, and we will tell you that upfront before we roll out.
Which Key Does Your G70 Use?
This is the original G70 smart key. Rectangular fob with the Genesis logo, four side buttons, and a hidden metal key inside for emergencies.
Same shape as the earlier fob but with an added remote start button. Check your battery compartment to confirm whether yours takes a CR2032 or CR2450 before buying a replacement battery.
The newest G70 fob with FCC ID TQ8-FOB-4F75M44. Looks similar to the facelift key but runs on a completely different security platform with server authentication.

Smart Key Battery Drain
Your G70 fob drains fast. The proximity system pings the key signal even when parked. Normal for the G70, but if you replace batteries every couple months, store the fob 10+ feet from the car overnight. A CR2032 or CR2450 should last about a year.
Transponder Programming Failure
Owners think the new key is defective when it will not program. Usually the tool, not the key. 2021+ G70 models require Genesis server auth, and cheap tools or outdated software cannot connect. We carry Autel IM608 with current Genesis subscriptions.
Key Fob Button Wear
First check when a Simi Valley customer says the lock or unlock button is unreliable: the rubber contact pads. Side-mounted buttons on 2019-2023 G70 smart keys wear, contacts thin. New shell fixes it. If the board is fine, we swap internals into a new shell.
Digital Key Compatibility Issues
Owners assume the phone is broken when Digital Key 2 Touch will not pair. Usually a phone compatibility issue. The 2024 G70's NFC unlock works with newer Samsung, Google, and Apple devices; budget and older phones lack NFC hardware. Check the Genesis app.
Can You Program a G70 Key Yourself?
No generation of the G70 supports self-programming. The immobilizer system requires professional diagnostic tools to read the PIN code and pair the transponder to your car's ECU. You need a locksmith with OBD-II equipment and Genesis server access, or a dealer. There is no shortcut here.
