2021 Genesis G70
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What is the FCC ID for the 2021 Genesis G70 key fob?

The factory FCC ID on the fob is printed on the back label. If your key is lost or damaged and you cannot read it, do not stress about it. I identify the correct fob for your vehicle from the year, make, and model. You do not need to have the old key in hand or know any part numbers to get a replacement made.

Q: I lost all my keys to my 2021 Genesis G70. Can you still make a new one?

Yes, and this is one of the more common calls I get. All-keys-lost on the G70 is handled entirely at the vehicle. I connect to the diagnostic port, extract the PIN tied to your VIN, wipe the existing key memory, and enroll a fresh fob. The emergency insert blade gets cut at the same time.

Q: My G70 fob buttons work but the car will not start. It just sits there. What is going on?

This one trips people up. If the remote functions work, lock and unlock are responding, but the car will not start, the issue is usually the fob communicating with the door antennas versus the fob communicating with the start system. Those are two different things on this vehicle. First thing to try: hold the fob directly against the start button and try again.

Q: Can I buy a G70 fob online and have someone program it, or does it have to come from the dealer?

You can buy a fob from a third-party source, but it has to be the correct fob for this vehicle and it still needs to be programmed with diagnostic equipment before it will do anything. It will not work out of the box. The dealer part number gets you a known-good match, but aftermarket fobs from reputable suppliers work fine as long as the part is correct for the year and model.

2021 Genesis G70 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near the water at Rincon Point when the call came in. A woman in Carpinteria needed a spare smart key made for her 2021 Genesis G70. She had one working key and wanted a backup before anything went wrong. Smart move, honestly. One key on a car like this is a situation waiting to happen.

She had done her homework before calling. Told me the dealer wanted her to leave the car for a full day and pay a lot for a single spare fob. She found me because a previous customer had written a review describing a Genesis job with enough detail that she felt confident. Not five stars and a first name. Actual specifics about the process.

I pulled up to her driveway with everything I needed. Connected to the OBD port, extracted the PIN, enrolled the new fob to the vehicle's security system, cut the emergency insert blade, and ran through the full test sequence. Lock, unlock, every button, start, three cold cycles to confirm the car was reading the new key consistently.

The whole job was done before she finished her coffee. She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer had quoted, and she walked away with a backup key that actually works, not a promise that one would be ready in a few days.

Genesis G70 Mobile Service FAQ

What battery does the 2021 Genesis G70 key fob use?▼

CR2032. Standard size, easy to find at any drugstore or hardware store. When I make a replacement key on-site, I always install a fresh one before handing it over, so you are starting from a full battery, not whatever was left in the fob I sourced. One thing worth knowing on the G70: if you are getting inconsistent range or the car occasionally throws a key-not-detected warning, try the battery before assuming anything else is wrong.
