1st Generation (HI Platform)
Your first gen G90 uses a 3-button smart key with a HITAG3 (ID47) transponder chip and a high-security emergency blade. Push-button start is standard. Programming requires OBD-II access plus server authentication to pull the PIN code from Hyundai's database, so this is not a key you can get cut at a hardware store.
2nd Generation (RS4 Platform)
Your second gen G90 moved to an ID47 transponder chip and a redesigned smart key fob, still with 3 buttons and a high-security blade. Genesis introduced their Digital Key app during this run. The big change for us: a Security Gateway Module now sits between the OBD-II port and the immobilizer, which means we need updated tools and server access to get through.
2nd Generation Facelift (RS4)
Your newest G90 runs an ID47 chip with a laser-cut blade and a rechargeable fob battery. Security jumped again with cloud-based validation through Genesis Connected Services. We can handle add-a-key jobs on these with the right server authorization, but all-keys-lost situations on the 2024 and 2025 currently require dealer involvement. We will tell you that upfront before we roll out.

Smart Key Battery Drain
First check is the fob battery, since the G90's proximity sensors are always listening and burn through CR2032 cells. Works intermittently or only at close range? Fresh battery fixes it nine times out of ten. We carry CR2032s in Oxnard or Camarillo.
Transponder Sync Failure
Owners assume a dead battery just needs a jump. Not always. On the G90, a low-voltage event can knock the immobilizer out of sync with your transponder. We run a relearn through OBD-II that gets key and immobilizer talking, about 30 minutes.
Server Programming Lockout
Your 2021+ G90 will not accept a new key unless we pull a PIN from the Genesis server. Sometimes the server says no if there is a theft flag on the VIN or Connected Services lapsed. We have workarounds for most cases, but if locked we tell you upfront.
Blade Wear on High-Security Key
The high-security emergency blade on 2017-2020 G90 keys wears with use because cuts are precise and tolerances tight. The mechanical key gets harder to turn, or fails during a dead fob. We cut replacement blades on-site with the right cutter to factory specs.
Can You Program a G90 Key Yourself?
No self-programming option exists. The G90 requires OBD-II diagnostic equipment and a PIN code pulled from Hyundai's server. This is a professional-only job.
Same story here, plus the Security Gateway Module blocks access without the right tools. You need a licensed locksmith or dealer for this one.
Cloud-based validation makes this the most locked-down generation yet. Add-a-key jobs require server authorization. All-keys-lost currently needs dealer involvement.
