2023 Genesis G90 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a man in Cold Spring, up in Montecito, on a Tuesday morning. He was standing next to his 2023 G90 in his driveway, and the car simply would not acknowledge him.

Walking up to the door handle, nothing. He'd already tried holding the fob closer, tried the backup start procedure near the start button, and had restarted his phone twice like that was somehow going to help. He told me the car had been sitting for about three weeks while he was traveling and this was his first attempt to drive it since he got back.

That detail matters. Three weeks of sitting in a California coastal microclimate will drain a CR2450 faster than people expect, especially if the vehicle was left with any accessory wake events running in the background. When I got there, I popped the fob, pulled the cell, and tested it. It was reading low enough to communicate inconsistently but not so dead that the car would throw a clean "no key" message every time. Those are the annoying ones because the owner starts doubting everything.

Fresh CR2450, reseated properly. Door handle woke right up. I walked every function, all seven buttons, both front handles, the interior start sequence, and the emergency insert slot in the center console, just to make sure nothing else had gone sideways while the fob was running weak.

He asked what the dealer would have charged to diagnose this. I told him to think about what his time was worth just getting the car there and sitting in a service waiting room. He nodded and didn't push further.

The whole call was under thirty minutes. The car was exactly as it should have been from the start.
