About BMW Keys

BMW Comfort Access keys are some of the most sophisticated in the automotive world, and BMW dealers charge accordingly. We program BMW smart keys, flip keys, and transponder keys on-site using professional-grade tools, without the tow, without the three-day wait for a key shipped from New Jersey, and without the dealer markup.
BMW Comfort Access Programming Without the Dealer Runaround

BMW has been building immobilizer technology into its vehicles since 1993, progressing through the EWS and CAS systems all the way to the current FEM and BDC platforms used in G-series models. Every BMW built since the mid-1990s requires a programmed key to start, and none of them support owner self-programming under any circumstances.

Full Platform Coverage On Site
We use Autel IM608 and OBDSTAR G3 programmers that handle the full range of BMW platforms, from CAS3 and CAS3-plus models on the E90 3 Series and E60 5 Series through CAS4 and FEM on F30 and F10 chassis vehicles. For most BMW models from 2006 through 2022, we can complete all-keys-lost service on-site without towing by reading the ISN code from the ECU via OBD-II.

G-Series Bench Programming
G-series models from 2019 onward with the BDC2 module require bench work and are more involved, but we handle that too for experienced-tech appointments. We bring the correct fob blank, cut the blade, and pair the key at your location.
How BMW Keys Have Changed Over the Years

BMW Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

BMW dealers charge $330 to $1,000 for key replacement depending on model, and they ship keys from their facility in New Jersey, which means a two to three day wait before your appointment can even be scheduled. We carry inventory on the truck and complete the job the same day you call.

What the BMW Dealer Experience Is Really Like

The BMW dealer key replacement process has a quirk that catches a lot of owners off guard: BMW does not stock replacement keys at the dealership. They order them from a central facility, which means after you bring your vehicle in, provide proof of ownership, and wait for the service advisor to process your request, the key ships and typically arrives two to three business days later. Only then does your programming appointment get scheduled. If you have no working key and cannot drive the car, you are also paying for a tow to get it there.

What The Dealer Actually Charges
Dealer pricing ranges from $330 for basic transponder keys on older models up to $1,000 or more for Comfort Access smart keys on current G-series vehicles, and those ranges typically bundle in the tow cost, which can obscure how expensive the base service actually is.

Same-Day Service From Our Truck
We carry BMW fob inventory on the truck, confirm the correct blank from your VIN before arrival, cut and program it on-site, and hand you two working keys the same day you call.
What Makes BMW Keys Different

BMW key systems stand out in one critical way from nearly every other brand: no BMW, in any era, has ever supported owner self-programming. Japanese brands offered key cycle programming on older platforms. American trucks have had owner-accessible FOB pairing sequences for years. BMW has never allowed it, not on an E46, not on an F30, not on anything.

Why BMW Requires Pro Tools
The reason is the EWS and CAS immobilizer architecture, which requires the key's transponder to authenticate through the engine control unit using encrypted challenge-response communication that cannot be bypassed with a simple ignition cycle sequence. This is also why all-keys-lost on a BMW is one of the more involved jobs in mobile locksmithing, requiring ISN code extraction from the DME before any new keys can be paired.

BMW Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
