The Stearns Wharf parking area sees a lot of rideshare drivers cycling through during the day. One of them called me on a Tuesday afternoon in a real bind.
His 2022 CX-30 was sitting in a pulloff just off the waterfront, and the blade had snapped inside the door lock. Not bent, not stuck. Broken clean, with the tip seated in the cylinder. He was between rides, the car was locked, and another locksmith he had already called told him the cylinder would need to be drilled out. New cylinder, new key, the whole thing. He texted me while he was still on the phone with that guy.
I told him to hold off.
When I got there I used a dedicated extraction tool to pull the broken blade fragment out of the cylinder without touching the wafer surfaces. Took about ten minutes and the cylinder came out of it in perfect shape. Then I decoded the lock mechanically and cut a fresh blade to match.
The fob shell itself was cracked from being dropped on pavement more than once, so I transferred the internals into a new shell, reseated the battery, and tested every function: touch unlock on both handles, the start button, lock, unlock, the whole sequence.
He was back on the road inside 45 minutes. The cylinder is still the original. The lock looks exactly the same as when I got there.
The other locksmith had quoted drilling as if it were the only option. It almost never is.
