I was already parked for the night when the call came in. Downtown Santa Barbara, close to State Street, a strip mall lot, 9:45 on a weeknight. A pharmacy tech finishing a closing shift. Her only fob to her 2020 CX-30 was gone. Not misplaced, gone. She'd checked the store, the counter, the lot twice. Nothing.

The all-keys-lost procedure on this vehicle requires a full immobilizer reset through the diagnostic port, and the system won't close out until two fobs are registered. That's just how this platform works. I ran the sequence under the parking lot lights, built both fobs, verified push-button start on both, and walked every button on each one before I handed them over.
She calmed down somewhere in the middle of it, once she could see the process happening in front of her. By the time I was done she was mostly just ready to go home.
She drove home that night. The dealer was closed anyway, and the tow alone would have cost her before she even got to the key.
