2004 Dodge Caravan Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Saturday morning near Oxnard Shores, a vendor was setting up his booth at the swap meet lot when he walked back to his 2004 Dodge Caravan and the remote head key did nothing. No door unlock, no response at all from the buttons. He was already unloaded, inventory was spread out, and the van was sitting locked with more stock inside he needed to get to.
He tried the key blade in the door, got in that way, and started making calls. His dealer was closed. A couple of other places didn't pick up. I did.
I was there in about forty minutes. First thing I checked was the battery. CR2032 was completely dead, which explained the no-response from the buttons. Swapped it in, tested range. Buttons came back but the van wasn't responding consistently to the lock signal, so I checked further. The contacts inside the fob housing had some corrosion, which is not unusual on a twenty-year-old piece of plastic that's been on a keyring in every weather condition California throws at you.
Cleaned the contacts, seated the new CR2032 properly, confirmed signal, then ran the programming sequence through the OBD port to make sure the fob was still correctly enrolled. Tested lock, unlock, and the other buttons. Walked the perimeter of the lot checking range. Everything came back clean.
He was back to pulling stock out of the van before the lot was even half full. Dealer would have been Monday at the earliest, and he'd have spent the day figuring out alternative arrangements. That didn't happen.
