2004 Dodge Caravan Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Saturday morning off Rice Avenue corridor in Oxnard. A guy who sells at the swap meet had set up his booth, walked back to his 2004 Dodge Caravan, and got nothing. No unlock, no response from any button on his remote head key. He tried holding it against the door handle. Tried again from two inches away. Dead.
Dealer service was closed until Monday. His inventory was already laid out on tables. The van was not going anywhere without a working key.
I got out there in about 40 minutes. Popped open his remote head key on the hood and the CR2032 was flat, no voltage left at all. But the bigger issue was the transponder side. The Sentry Key system on these third-gen Caravans reads the PCF7941 chip through the SKREEM every time you turn the ignition. A dead remote is annoying. A transponder that will not authenticate means the engine cranks and dies in two seconds.
I used my VVDI Key Tool to generate a fresh transponder, cut a new Y160-PT blade to match, and built him a complete 6-button remote head key, FCC ID M3N5WY72XX, part number 05183683AA. Programmed through OBD, tested lock, unlock, panic, hatch, and remote start from across the lot.
He finished his swap meet day and drove home. No Monday dealer appointment, no tow, no waiting in a queue behind ten other repair orders.
