Avenger Key Systems by Generation
First Generation (PJ Platform)
A remote head key with a standard blade, three buttons, and a transponder chip inside. Your Avenger uses the SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer Module) to verify the chip before it lets the engine fire. The key takes a CR2032 battery for the remote functions, and programming is handled through the OBD-II port, which means we do it right at your car with no towing required.
Which Key Does Your Avenger Use?
This is a traditional key that you insert into the ignition. The top half is your remote for locking and unlocking, and inside the housing is a transponder chip that talks to your car's immobilizer every time you turn the key.
Avenger Key Cost Breakdown
Price includes the key blank, cutting, transponder programming, and testing; no hidden fees.

Common Avenger Key Problems
Remote Keyless Entry Failure
Press lock or unlock, nothing happens, or only at arm's length. Usually worn battery contacts inside the fob or a failing receiver module. We test both before recommending anything, so you do not pay for a fob when a $3 battery does the job.
Key Fob Battery Drain
The CR2032 in your Avenger's fob should last 2-3 years. Sit in Oxnard sun or cold Thousand Oaks mornings and that drops. Range shrinks before the cell dies. Pop the fob, swap a fresh CR2032 positive side up.
Immobilizer System Sensitivity
First check on an Avenger that cranks but will not start: is the SKIM reading the transponder? Sentry Key sometimes stops recognizing a key that worked yesterday. A module reset through OBD-II usually clears it. If the SKIM itself failed, we tell you straight.
Key Fob Programming Issues (TSB SB-18-045-13)
Owners assume their aftermarket key is defective when it will not program. Real problem on 2008-2012 Avengers is often the Wireless Control Module software. Chrysler issued TSB SB-18-045-13. The WCM needs reprogramming first. We carry the right gear in Simi Valley and Camarillo.
Can You Program It Yourself?
There is no onboard self-programming procedure for the Avenger. You cannot add a new transponder key using just the car and an existing key. It requires an OBD-II programmer and at least one working key. All keys lost situations need a professional scan tool or the vehicle PIN.

Did You Know?
Most people do not know this: the 2008 Dodge Avenger was an entirely new model that replaced the Dodge Stratus. It shared its platform with the Chrysler Sebring, which means the key systems and immobilizer modules are compatible between the two cars. If you have ever sat in a Sebring and thought the dashboard looked familiar, now you know why.
