4th Generation (KA4) Smart Key
A smart key with push-button start and proximity entry on all trims. Your Carnival uses Kia's advanced immobilizer system with server-authenticated programming, which means the key has to be verified through a secure online connection before it will start your vehicle. This is the highest level of key security Kia offers, and it is the same across every 2022 through 2025 Carnival.
Which Key Does Your Carnival Use?
This is a proximity fob. You keep it in your pocket or bag, walk up to the door, and the car unlocks. Press the start button and you are driving. There is a small metal emergency blade tucked inside the fob for manual door entry if the battery dies.

Smart Key Fob Battery Drain
Carnival fob sluggish; you need to be next to the door before it unlocks. Remote start and Kia Connect pull more from the CR2032 than a basic fob. Swap the cell; if drain repeats every few weeks, we check internals on-site.
Proximity Unlock False Triggers
Doors unlocking as you walk past is the Carnival proximity sensor working too well, reading the fob through pocket or purse. Dial back sensitivity under Vehicle, then Door in infotainment. If that does not settle it, the fob antenna may need attention.
Key Programming Requires Server Authentication
First question on a Carnival add-key: one working key, or all-keys-lost? Both doable, paths differ. Every 2022-2025 Carnival needs server authentication for a new smart key; OBD-only tools will not finish. We run Autel and Xhorse with live subs.
Car Won't Start After Battery Replacement
People blame the fob after a car-battery swap; it is fine. Disconnecting the 12V knocked the immobilizer out of sync with the smart key, common on the KA4. Two keys, on-board relearn fixes it. One key only, call (805) 790-8162 and we resync through OBD.
Can You Program a Carnival Key Yourself?
No DIY self-programming option exists for the 2022-2025 Carnival. The advanced immobilizer requires professional locksmith equipment, a PIN code, and server authentication. This is not something you can do in the driveway with YouTube and a paperclip.
