2024 Kia Carnival Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from an alignment shop on Upper State Street. They had a 2024 Carnival sitting in their lot, owner stranded, and a story.
Another locksmith had tried to program a replacement smart key earlier that morning. Somewhere in the middle of the security handshake, the 12V battery dropped below what the system needed to complete the sequence. The vehicle security system went into a fault state. The locksmith packed up and left. The alignment shop called me because the owner was still there, still had no working key, and now had warning lights he didn't have before.
When I got there I hooked up my jump pack first and held the voltage stable before touching anything else. That part matters more than most people realize. Mid-handshake power loss on this platform can leave the system sitting in a fault condition that blocks any new programming attempt until the codes are cleared. I pulled the faults with my scan tool, cleared them, and waited for the system to settle.
Then I ran the programming sequence clean, start to finish, with stable voltage the whole way. The fob the owner had bought for the job - the factory fob with the right part number for his Carnival - paired on the first attempt. Proximity detection worked at the door. Start button recognized it. Every button confirmed.
The whole recovery took about an hour and a half, including the diagnostic work the first locksmith left behind. The owner had already been quoted a flatbed tow and a multi-day dealer wait. He was relieved it didn't come to that.
