First Generation Facelift (SP2)
OBD-II programming paired with server authentication makes this one straightforward for us but impossible for DIY. Your Seltos uses an encrypted transponder chip (ID46PC or similar) inside a 3-button smart key with push-button start. We connect through the diagnostic port, pull the PIN, and program your new key right there in the driveway.
Second Generation Facelift (SP2)
Server authentication and OBD-II programming carry over, but Kia added Digital Key 2 Touch support and enhanced proximity sensors on these newer models. The smart key still runs an encrypted transponder chip (ID46PC or similar) with a CR2032 battery and 3 buttons. Dealer-level PIN calculation is required, and we carry the tools to handle it on every call.
Which Key Does Your Seltos Use?
This is the rectangular fob that stays in your pocket. Press the button on the door handle to unlock, press the start button to go. There is a hidden metal key inside for emergencies.
Same smart key concept as the earlier Seltos, but with updated motion sensors and proximity unlock features. Still uses a CR2032 battery and a hidden emergency blade tucked inside the fob.

Smart Key Battery Drain
Seltos owners think the fob is defective when it dies every few weeks; usually storage. A fob on a table near the car or on an Oxnard garage hook keeps proximity sensors pinging and drains the CR2032 fast. Move it further overnight, life jumps to months.
Transponder Programming Lockout
First check on a no-start Seltos: how many programming attempts already happened. The 2022-2025 immobilizer locks out after three failed server auths; a basic code reader will not fix it. We carry Autel IM608 with Kia authorization to reset and reprogram.
Key Fob Sync Loss After Battery Change
Seltos fob loses comm right after a fresh CR2032 went in. The immobilizer dropped its handshake with the transponder; not broken, just needs an OBD relearn. We handle this in about 15 minutes on-site, common call from Simi Valley and Camarillo.
Can You Program a Seltos Key Yourself?
No DIY self-programming exists for the 2021-2023 Seltos. The immobilizer requires OBD-II diagnostic tools and server authentication to pair a new smart key. You need a professional locksmith or the dealer.
