How Nissan Rogue Sport Keys Evolved
J11 Facelift, Intelligent Key
A smart key with three buttons (lock, unlock, panic) and a hidden mechanical blade tucked inside the fob. Your Rogue Sport uses the NATS immobilizer system with a Nissan transponder chip, which means the key communicates wirelessly with your car and requires server authentication to program. The FCC ID is KR5TXN1, and the fob runs on a CR2032 battery. Base S trims may have a traditional transponder key instead of the full Intelligent Key setup.
J11 Final Facelift, Same Platform
A smart key identical in function to the 2019-2020 models, still using the KR5TXN1 fob with NATS immobilizer and CR2032 battery. Nissan kept the security architecture consistent across this final run of the Rogue Sport. The mechanical emergency blade is still hidden in the back of the fob, and programming still requires Nissan server authentication through diagnostic equipment.
Which Key Does Your Rogue Sport Use?
This is the rectangular black fob you carry in your pocket. It talks to your car wirelessly so you never have to take it out to unlock or start. There is a small metal key hidden inside for emergencies.
Same smart key design as the earlier years. Three buttons, CR2032 battery, and a hidden mechanical blade you can slide out if the fob battery dies. Push button start on SV and SL trims.
The Real Cost of a Rogue Sport Key
Price includes the key fob, cutting the emergency blade, programming to your vehicle, and testing; no hidden fees.

Common Nissan Rogue Sport Key Problems
Intelligent Key Battery Failure
Rogue Sport stops responding at the handle, push-start ignores you. The CR2032 lasts about two years on daily use; when it fades everything stops at once. Swap it; if the problem persists, call (805) 790-8162 because the fob hardware may need attention.
Key Registration Required for Telematics
Nissan's telematics module sometimes needs a TCU update or replacement. When it does, every Intelligent Key has to be re-registered through the dealer server. Had three, only bring two? The third is dead. We handle full re-registration on-site in Oxnard.
Proximity Detection Issues
We check fob battery first; nine times out of ten weak Rogue Sport proximity traces to a dying CR2032. If fine, usually RF interference from other electronics. Carry the fob alone. Still no? The antenna may be damaged; we test on-site in Camarillo.
Can You Program a Rogue Sport Key Yourself?
No DIY programming exists for this generation. The NATS immobilizer requires diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port and Nissan server authentication. There is no key-in-ignition trick or button sequence that works.
Same story here. Nissan's security system erases all previous keys during programming, so it requires professional diagnostic tools and server access. You cannot add a key at home.
