2019 Nissan Rogue Sport Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A driver came off a job near South Surfside in Port Hueneme and his 2019 Rogue Sport fob had stopped responding. Not intermittent. Fully dead to the car. Doors would not respond to the buttons, the push-button start was not recognizing the fob in the cabin, and he was getting a key-not-detected warning on the dash every time he sat down.
He had already tried a new battery. CR2032, correct size, seated right. Still nothing. He found me through a neighbor and I met him in the parking area off Surfside Drive.
First thing I did was pull the fob apart and look at the battery contacts. Clean. No corrosion. I held the fob right against the start button housing and tried again. The car started. That told me the fob's transmitter was the issue, not the immobilizer side. Short range or no range, but the low-frequency side for the push-button was still alive when the fob was practically touching the antenna.
That is a fob problem, not a programming problem. The transmitter had degraded. We needed a new fob, and because of how the Rogue Sport handles key registration, both his fobs had to come in together so neither one got dropped from the system.
He had the second fob with him. Good. I pulled the new fob, programmed both through the diagnostic port on site, cut the emergency insert blade to match his lock, and tested every button, every door handle, and the start button from a normal carry distance before I called it done.
He was back on the road in under an hour. The dealer had been his first thought, but after I told him what the appointment wait time and estimate would likely look like at a Nissan store, he said he was glad he made the call instead.
