1st Gen Launch
Cadillac launched the CT5 on the Alpha platform with a 5-button smart key fob, FCC ID YG0G20TB1, and a high-security HU100 emergency blade tucked inside. The immobilizer runs GM's Hitag-Pro keyless system (NXP HITAG-Pro ID49 chip), which means every new key needs server authentication to start the car. No shortcuts, no workarounds. That server handshake is what keeps your CT5 secure.
Mid-Cycle Refresh
GM updated the fob design here, moving away from the old Crest style to a cleaner look with textured plastic and metallic accents. Under the hood, nothing changed on the security side. Same Hitag-Pro immobilizer, same server authentication requirement, same CR2450 battery. Your buttons are lock, unlock, trunk, remote start, and panic.
Facelift Year
The 2024 facelift kept the same smart key platform and Hitag-Pro immobilizer. Keyless Access and push-button start are standard across every trim. Programming still requires server authentication, so this is a professional-only job whether you go to the dealer or call us.
Which Key Does Your CT5 Use?
A black proximity fob with the Cadillac Crest design. You never insert it to start the car. Just keep it in your pocket and press the push-button start.
Same 5-button layout, but Cadillac refreshed the fob styling. Textured plastic with metallic accents replaced the older Crest look. Functions and programming are identical to the 2020-2021.
Carries over the updated fob design from 2022-2023. Keyless Access is standard. Same key, same programming process, same CR2450 battery inside.

Smart Key Battery Drain
The CR2450 in your 2020-2022 CT5 fob drains faster with frequent remote start. Constant fob-to-car handshake eats battery life, especially on cool Camarillo or Ojai mornings. Swap first. Problem returns, we check if the fob is pulling excess current.
Transponder Programming Failure
CT5 fob will not start the car without passing GM server authentication: a handshake between the key, Hitag-Pro immobilizer, and GM's remote server. Shops without NASTF tool access get stuck. We carry credentials and handle it on-site in Simi Valley, Oxnard.
Emergency Blade Wear
Worn emergency blade does not mean the whole fob is bad. The HU100 high-security blade inside your 2022-2024 CT5 fob wears prematurely with frequent use, especially V-Series cars seeing valet parking. We check cuts vs factory spec and cut fresh on-site.
Can You Program a CT5 Key Yourself?
If you already have two working keys, you can add a third fob's remote functions (lock, unlock, trunk, remote start, panic) through the DIC menu. But this does NOT program the transponder. Your new key will lock and unlock the doors but will not start the car. You still need a pro for that.
