Guy had just gotten cleared by his cardiologist at a medical office off Rice Avenue in Oxnard and was walking back to his 2020 CT5 when nothing happened. Press the door handle button, nothing. Hold the fob to the start button backup spot on the center console, still nothing. The DIC just sat there with "No Remote Detected."
It was late afternoon. He had prescriptions to pick up before the pharmacy closed, and his cardiologist had been very specific about starting the medication that night. The dealer was already done for the day.
He called me.
I got out there, opened the door, and plugged my IM608 into the OBD-II port under the dash. His fob, the YGOG20TB1 five-button remote, looked fine on the outside. But when I cracked the case open, the CR2450's negative contact had a ring of green corrosion. The battery still showed voltage, but the signal path to the board was shot. The backup coil reader behind the start button could not pick up the passive chip through that mess.
Replaced the fob, programmed the new one to the body control module, tested lock, unlock, remote start, trunk, and the passive entry on all four door handles plus the trunk. From his phone call to engine running was about 50 minutes.
He made it to the pharmacy with time to spare. When someone walks out of a cardiology appointment and needs medication before bed, the timeline is not flexible.
