How the XTS Key System Works
First Generation (D2XX Platform)
GM built the XTS on a single generation, so the key system stayed consistent across all seven model years. Your fob uses the Philips ID46 GM EXT (PCF7937) transponder chip paired with a laser-cut emergency blade, push-button start, and GM's PATS immobilizer. Programming requires OBD-II access with dealer-level authentication, which is exactly what we bring to your driveway.
Which Key Does Your XTS Use?
This is the only key type for your XTS. It is a black proximity fob with chrome trim that starts the car without inserting anything into the ignition. There is a small emergency blade tucked inside for manual door entry if the battery dies.
How Much Does a Cadillac XTS Key Cost?
Price includes the smart key fob, laser-cut blade, transponder programming, immobilizer sync, and on-site service anywhere in Ventura County.
EZ Car Keyz vs. the Dealer
Here is the price difference when you skip the dealership waiting room.
Common XTS Key Problems
Keyless Entry System Failures
Receiver module inside your XTS can fail, especially in coastal humidity around Oxnard and Ventura. Fob will not unlock the doors no matter how many batteries you swap. We diagnose fob vs module first, because a new key will not fix a bad receiver.
Smart Key Battery Drain
Replacing the CR2032 every few months? XTS proximity sensing and Bluetooth stay active with the car off, chewing through batteries in 6-12 months instead of 3-4 years. Quality CR2032, positive up. Persists? Fob internals may need attention.
Immobilizer Sync Loss After Battery Disconnect
Owners assume a dead car battery just needs a jump. Not always with the XTS. Disconnecting the battery for service can knock immobilizer sync with the transponder, leaving a valid key that will not start. Needs OBD-II reprogramming. We handle in Simi Valley.
Electronic Parking Brake Interlock with Key System
We check parking-brake integration first because most do not realize the XTS electronic parking brake is wired into immobilizer logic. A bad key job can leave the brake refusing to release. Proper sequencing prevents this, not a generalist job.
Can You Program an XTS Key Yourself?
You can program the remote buttons yourself using the door key cylinder learn procedure and the center console transmitter pocket. But this only handles remote functions like lock, unlock, and trunk. The transponder, which is the part that actually lets your car start, requires professional OBD-II programming. Call us at (805) 790-8162 for that part.
There is no DIY method for programming the transponder chip on your XTS. The immobilizer requires dealer-level OBD-II access with authentication, and basic code readers will not cut it. We bring the right tools to your location and handle the full programming on-site.

Did You Know?
The 2013 Cadillac XTS was the first full-size Cadillac sedan to feature standard keyless ignition and proximity-based smart key entry. It marked GM's shift toward luxury-tier security features across the entire Cadillac brand. Before the XTS, push-button start was reserved for the smaller CTS and the Escalade.
