Most of the time, that's the CR2032 losing voltage before it fully dies. Proximity systems are power-hungry compared to basic remote entry, and a cell that looks fine on a basic battery tester can still be too weak to maintain reliable range.

Swap the battery first. Make sure the new cell seats flush against both contacts inside the fob. If range comes back, you're done.

If a fresh CR2032 doesn't fix it, the fob's internal antenna or circuit could be the issue, especially if the fob has taken a drop. There's also a small possibility of interference from the environment, but that would affect all vehicles around you equally.

The one thing to rule out quickly: if range is short on the buttons but the vehicle still starts fine and door handles still work, the key is probably okay and the battery swap is your answer. If the start button is also getting flaky, don't wait. That's the system telling you it's about to stop recognizing the fob entirely.
