2017 Cadillac XTS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was school pickup time in West Simi Valley, and the mom I was helping had maybe 40 minutes before after-school care closed and started charging by the minute.
She'd been using the door handle to lock and unlock for two days, thinking the fob was just being weird. Then that morning the vehicle stopped recognizing the key at the start button entirely. She called the dealer. They couldn't see her until later in the week and quoted her a number that made her pause long enough to look for another option.
She found me, called, and I was in the parking lot near her within the hour.
The fob itself was fine. What had happened was the CR2032 had dropped just enough voltage to make the proximity system unreliable without completely killing remote button function. The vehicle security system wasn't seeing the fob consistently at the door handles or the start button, but it would still respond to button presses sometimes. Classic low-battery degradation on a proximity setup.
I replaced the cell, reseated the contacts, and walked every door handle to confirm touch unlock was back. Start button responded immediately. I had her repeat the full sequence herself so she wasn't just taking my word for it.
She picked up her kid on time. The dealer comparison barely came up. She just needed someone there, fast, who knew what they were looking at.
