2018 Cadillac XTS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Wood Ranch, I got a call from a retired couple who had been putting off getting a spare key for their 2018 XTS for months. Not because they didn't want one. Because getting to the Cadillac dealer meant a freeway run they just didn't want to deal with anymore. So the car sat with one key, and they kept hoping it wouldn't become a problem.
I drove out to them that morning. The original fob was in decent shape, battery still had some life, but they had no backup. On a proximity system like this, one key is a bad place to be. I had the correct fob blank in my service vehicle, cut the emergency insert key to match the vehicle, and ran the programming sequence through the OBD port to register the new fob to the immobilizer and pair the remote functions.
Then I walked through everything with them. Passive entry on both front handles. Lock and unlock from across the car. The emergency insert fitting the door cylinder in case the battery ever dies completely. I showed them the CR2032 swap process so they'd know how to handle it themselves before it caused a no-start.
They didn't leave their driveway. The dealer had quoted them a number that made them wince, and that was before factoring in the drive, the wait, and the whole half-day it would have taken. That part came up almost as an afterthought. They were just glad someone came to them.
