A retired couple near Simi Valley Town Center had been meaning to get a spare for their 2018 Cadillac XTS for months. The problem was never the key. It was the drive. The Body Control Module on these runs a theft deterrent relearn cycle, so there is a short timed wait built into the process. While it counted down, I showed them where the hidden blade slots into the door handle and how to pop the fob open to check the CR2032 before it dies on them somewhere inconvenient.
Tested every function. Proximity unlock on all four doors, push-button start, remote start, trunk release. Then confirmed both fobs were recognized and their seat memory positions were still saved correctly per fob slot.
They never left the house. The whole thing cost them a fraction of what the dealer quoted for a single key, and nobody had to touch the freeway.
