Guy pulled into the lot near Topa Topa Brewing Company with his 2021 CT5. Said the remote worked fine yesterday, dead today. Changed the CR2450 twice.
I checked the obvious stuff first. Battery contacts clean, no corrosion. Tested the remote with my frequency counter and got nothing on 433.92 MHz. Dead board. These YGOG20TB1 remotes have a known weak spot where the battery holder meets the circuit board. One hard drop can crack that solder joint.
Grabbed a new 13538860 from my stock. The CT5 uses GM's Global B electrical platform, so programming goes through the OBD port with NASTF credentials. Connected my Autel IM608, pulled the BCM security, ran the remote learn. The system wanted all remotes present, so we cycled his working spare too.
Twenty minutes total. The dealer quoted him three days because they had to order the remote. Plus they wanted him to flatbed it in since he only had one working key left.
He asked about getting a third remote while I was there. Smart thinking. These HU100 blades wear down, and the remote boards are fragile. Better to have a spare before you need it. Did that one too, so he left with three working remotes instead of the one he came with.
