How Gladiator Key Systems Have Evolved
JT 1st Generation (Base)
OBD-II programming with server authentication is required for this generation, so there are no shortcuts or DIY workarounds. Your Gladiator uses a 3-button smart key with a high-security blade, push-button start, and the Sentry Key Immobilizer system. Base models came without passive entry, but the key fob and programming process are the same.
JT 1st Generation (Passive Entry)
Server-based authentication through OBD-II is still the only way to program these. The passive entry version uses an RFID chip inside the smart key fob, which means your Gladiator unlocks when you walk up to the door handle with the fob in your pocket. Same CR2032 battery, same high-security blade, same Sentry Key system underneath.
JT Facelift
Programming still runs through OBD-II with server authentication, and the Security Gateway module adds an extra step we handle on-site. Jeep refreshed the Gladiator's styling but kept the same 3-button smart key with push-button start and Sentry Key Immobilizer. The OEM fob part number shifted to 68416784AC, but functionally it works the same as earlier years.
JT 1st Generation (Current)
Server-authenticated OBD-II programming remains the standard here. Your 2024 Gladiator runs the same Sentry Key Immobilizer with a 3-button smart key, high-security blade, and CR2032 battery. No major security changes from prior years, which means we use the same tools and process we have been running on Gladiators since 2020.
Which Key Does Your Gladiator Use?
A 3-button smart key fob with push-button start. You press the fob button to unlock, and there is a hidden high-security blade inside for manual door entry if the battery dies.
Same fob shape, but your Gladiator detects it in your pocket and unlocks when you grab the door handle. Uses an RFID chip for communication with the Sentry Key Immobilizer.
Visually identical to earlier smart keys. The OEM part number changed but the fob works the same way. CR2032 battery, 3 buttons, push-button start.
The latest Gladiator key fob. Same 3-button layout, same high-security emergency blade, same CR2032 battery. No surprises here.
Pricing by Generation
Price includes the key blank, high-security cutting, OBD-II programming with Security Gateway bypass, and on-site testing.
EZ Car Keyz vs. the Dealer
We carry the same Autel IM608 and VVDI platforms the dealer uses. We just bring them to your driveway for about half the price.
Common Gladiator Key Problems
Dead Key Fob Battery
Owners think push-button start failed when really the CR2032 in the fob is dead. Before calling, hold the fob flat against the start button while pressing the brake. If the engine fires, grab a new CR2032. 30 seconds with a coin to pop the fob open.
Security Gateway Module Interference
First check on any Gladiator program is the Security Gateway (SGW) module, which blocks unauthorized OBD-II access. We carry bypass equipment on every call, so it adds minutes, not a dealer trip. A dealer BCM update can revert a previous bypass.
Passive Entry Wiring Issues
Sense and return wires in the driver kick panel handle comms between door handles and the Sentry Key system. Aftermarket installs with poor connections or skipped posi-taps cause passive entry to fail. Common on Gladiators in Simi Valley and Camarillo.
Can You Program a Gladiator Key Yourself?
No self-programming procedure exists for any Gladiator year. The Sentry Key Immobilizer requires professional OBD-II equipment and server authentication. You need a locksmith or dealer for every key, whether it is an add-on or all-keys-lost situation.

Did You Know?
Most people do not know this: adding passive entry to a Jeep Gladiator is actually simpler than doing the same job on a Wrangler. The Gladiator uses OBD Genie for programming without any wire splicing, and it skips the tailgate sensor wiring that makes the Wrangler version more involved. It is one of the few cases where the truck variant is the easier install.
