I was parked near the water at Surfers Point, finishing up another job, when the call came in. A guy had been out hiking the trails above Ventura, came back to his 2021 Jeep Gladiator in the dirt pullout, and his fob was gone.

Somewhere on the trail. He'd already called another locksmith who told him the ignition cylinder would need to be drilled and replaced before anything else could happen.

That gave me the cut data I needed without drilling a single thing.

From there I cut a new blade, built the fob assembly with a fresh CR2450, and worked through the all-keys-lost sequence via the OBD port with a tool that actually handles the secure gateway on these JL-platform vehicles. The old fob, wherever it was on that trail, got erased from the system. It won't start this truck if someone finds it.

His door lock looked exactly the same when I packed up as it did when I arrived. No new cylinder, no drilled ignition, no tow to a dealer.

The other locksmith's quote with the cylinder replacement was a number he didn't want to say out loud twice. What he paid me was a fraction of that. He stood there for a second looking at the fob like he was making sure it was real, then clicked the lock button twice out of habit and drove off.
