1st Generation (CD690)
Your first gen MKC uses a 3-button proximity smart key with a Texas 4D (ID4D67) transponder chip inside. That chip talks to the PATS II immobilizer system every time you press the start button. Programming requires OBD-II access, which means plugging into your vehicle's diagnostic port and retrieving a 4-digit PIN code to register the new key.
1st Generation Facelift (CD690)
Your 2017 or 2018 MKC carries the same Texas 4D (ID4D67) chip and PATS II security as the earlier models, with minor fob design updates. The programming process is identical: OBD-II with PIN retrieval. Lincoln tweaked the key fob styling slightly, but under the hood the security architecture stayed the same.
1st Generation Final (CD690)
Your 2019 is the last year of the MKC before Lincoln renamed it the Corsair. It still runs the Texas 4D (ID4D67) chip and PATS II immobilizer. Intelligent Access with push-button start comes standard on every trim. Same OBD-II programming method we use on every MKC generation.
Which Key Does Your MKC Use?
This is the keyless fob that lives in your pocket or purse. You never insert it anywhere; just walk up, grab the handle, and press the start button. There is an emergency blade hidden inside for when the battery dies.
Same proximity smart key with a slightly updated look. It works exactly like the 2015-2016 fob. Three buttons, push-button start, and an emergency blade tucked inside the housing.
The last MKC key before the Corsair took over. Functionally identical to the earlier smart keys. Same CR2032 battery, same emergency blade, same proximity start system.

Proximity Sensor Failure
First check: is the vehicle detecting your fob at all? Hold the key against the start button: if it fires up but the pocket fob is ignored, the proximity antenna module is likely failing. We diagnose on-site in Oxnard or Simi Valley, fob vs vehicle.
Transponder Programming Lockout
Owners think the key died when the immobilizer locked itself out. Happens after a botched battery swap or several failed starts. PATS II shuts down and refuses any key until a professional OBD-II tool resets it. We carry the equipment to clear and reprogram.
Key Fob Battery Drain
MKC fob dying every few weeks instead of lasting a year? Remote start on 2015-2018 models can keep the transmitter partially active, chewing CR2032s fast. We swap the battery and check whether the fob circuit is drawing normally or needs replacing.
SecuriCode Keypad Malfunction
The door keypad is a Lincoln signature feature, and on 2017-2019 MKCs the buttons wear from regular use and weather. Intermittent response or dead buttons are the symptoms. Hardware issue with the keypad, not your smart key, but we confirm the diagnosis.
Can You Program a Key Yourself?
If you already have two working smart keys, you can add a third using the backup slot procedure in the center console. This only programs remote and proximity functions. If you have lost all your keys or only have one, you need professional OBD-II programming, and that is where we come in.
