Got a call from a guy over in the Big Sky neighborhood in Simi Valley. He collects vintage Lincolns, keeps a few stored at a facility nearby. The 2015 MKC was the daily driver, not the collection piece, but it was the one giving him trouble. Only had one working fob left and wanted a spare before that one quit on him.

I met him at the storage lot. The 2015 MKC uses Ford's second-gen PATS with an 80-bit transponder embedded in the smart fob. I connected through the OBD-II port, ran the security access sequence on the BCM (module 7A, GWM body control), and registered a new 164-R7989 fob. The system enforces a timed security handshake, about 10 minutes of waiting while the module cycles. Not dramatic, just patience.
After that, I tested every function. Lock, unlock, remote start, liftgate, panic. Passive entry on all four doors and the hatch. Push-to-start with the new fob, then with his original, confirming both were recognized.
He stood there watching the whole thing happen in a parking lot. The car does not care where the programming takes place.
