2015 Lincoln MKC
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2015 Lincoln MKC Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

There's a storage complex near Old Town Simi where a guy keeps a row of vintage Lincolns. Town Cars, a Mark VIII, a few others. Real collector. He called me about his 2015 MKC, which was the odd one out in the bay: modern, black, sitting between two cars that predate fuel injection.

He was convinced the newer Lincoln had to go to the dealer. Something he'd read on a forum told him these systems were locked down, dealer-tool-only, no exceptions. He wasn't hostile about it, just resigned. He'd already called a Lincoln store and was looking at a weekday appointment with no loaner and a wait that stretched past what he had the patience for.

I pulled up to the unit and he was ready to tell me all the reasons it wouldn't work.

I set up at the hood, connected to the OBD port, and walked through adding the new fob to the vehicle's system. The security sequence has a timing element built in, so you sit through it. That's just how it works. While it ran, he showed me the Mark VIII. When I looked back at the laptop the sequence had completed. I tested every button, walked both door handles for touch unlock, and confirmed the push-button start was reading the fob correctly.

He was quiet for a second. Then he said he would have waited three more weeks if I hadn't picked up the phone.

The car doesn't know what bay it was programmed in. It just knows the fob is authorized now.
