2017 Lincoln MKC Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A Spanish Hills resident called me early on a Tuesday. She had a 7:45 meeting in Camarillo and her MKC was not cooperating. Walked out, grabbed the door handle, nothing. The door handle touch unlock had stopped responding overnight. Fob buttons worked, start button saw the key once she got inside using the mechanical backup blade, but the passive entry was dead.
She assumed the fob had failed and wanted a replacement smart key before her meeting. I told her to hold off and drove out.
I checked the fob first. CR2450 was reading low, not dead but borderline. Swapped it on the spot. Walk to the car, touch the driver handle. Nothing. So it was not the battery alone.
I ran diagnostics and pulled a fault from the body control module tied to the driver front door handle. The antenna in that handle was not communicating the way it should. Fob was fine. The key she had was good. The vehicle security system was doing exactly what it was supposed to do; it just was not getting the signal from that specific handle.
I walked her through what the actual problem was before I touched anything else. She had been ready to pay for a full smart key replacement. The fob she had was working. She appreciated knowing that before we went further.
The door handle side is a separate repair conversation. But at least she left for her meeting with the right information and a fresh battery holding a solid charge, and did not spend money on a new fob she did not need.
