A body shop in Camarillo called me out to Sterling Hills on a job that another locksmith had already walked away from.
The story was this: the MKC owner needed a smart key replacement, a locksmith came out, and somewhere mid-programming the vehicle battery dropped voltage. Once the voltage was steady, I cleared the fault codes that had accumulated and let the system settle. Then I ran a clean programming sequence from the beginning. The immobilizer logic on a push-button MKC lives in the body control module, and once the fault state was gone and the module had stable power, it accepted the new fob on the first attempt.
Total time was about an hour and forty minutes, most of it waiting on the system between steps. The owner had already been quoted a number at the dealer that was well over what I charged. He said he was just glad someone actually finished the job.
I drove back out of Camarillo that afternoon with nothing dramatic to report. That is usually how a recovery job should end.
