Venue Key Replacement Pricing in San Diego
The quoted price covers the key, cutting, programming, and a full function test. No line-item surprises when the job is done. Lockouts in San Diego County run $105-$145.
Which Key Does Your Venue Use?
Higher trims get the proximity smart key with lock, unlock, remote start, and panic buttons. Base SE models may use a standard remote head key instead. Not sure which you have? Tell us your trim and we confirm it before quoting.
The same 4-button smart key carries over, now standard on more trims including the SEL. Push-button start and proximity entry come with the smart key package on those equipped trims.
SEL and Limited trims continue with the 4-button smart key. There is an emergency blade folded inside the fob so you can unlock the door manually if the battery goes dead.
How the Venue Key System Changed Over the Years
First Generation (2020-2021)
The 2020 and 2021 Venue launched with a 4-button smart key running on a CR2032 battery. Higher trims like the Limited came with proximity entry and remote start, while the base SE used a simpler remote head key instead. Programming on these models requires OBD-II access through the factory immobilizer, so a professional tool is mandatory from day one. We quote the price before we touch anything, so you know exactly what you are paying.
First Generation Facelift (2022-2023)
The 2022 and 2023 Venue carry the same 4-button smart key design, though Hyundai expanded keyless entry to the SEL trim during this stretch. The factory immobilizer on these years may require server authentication during programming, which means the equipment has to be current to complete the job. We check OBD-II first and give you a confirmed price before any work begins, same flat rate you were quoted on the phone.
First Generation Facelift 2 (2024)
The 2024 Venue stays with the same smart key platform and CR2032 battery. Proximity entry is available on SEL and Limited trims, and OBD-II programming through the factory immobilizer is still the only way to pair a new key. The quoted price covers cutting, programming, and testing. We do the work in your driveway, your parking spot, or wherever the car sits in San Diego County.

Common Venue Key Problems
Smart Key Battery Drain
The first thing we check is the age of the fob battery and whether the CR2032 is still putting out proper voltage. Venue smart keys with proximity entry and remote start pull more power than a basic fob, so batteries can die faster than most drivers expect. If you find yourself swapping the battery more than once a year, there may be a deeper issue with the fob circuit. We can diagnose that on-site anywhere in San Diego County.
Transponder Programming Failures
A lot of shops blame the key blank when programming fails on a 2022 or newer Venue. The real culprit is usually outdated software on the programming tool. The factory immobilizer on these newer models may require server authentication, and a tool that has not been updated recently will not complete the process. We keep our dealer-grade programming equipment current so that does not happen on your job.
Proximity Sensor Malfunction
You walk up to your Venue somewhere in San Diego, reach for the door handle, and nothing happens. The key is in your pocket and the battery is fine, but the door will not unlock. On 2020-2023 SEL and Limited trims, moisture can get into the door handle sensors and stop them from detecting the smart key. We can test both the sensors and the fob signal on-site to figure out which side the problem is on.
Can You Program a Venue Key Yourself?
No self-programming option exists for the 2020-2021 Venue. The factory immobilizer requires professional OBD-II equipment to pair a new smart key to the car. There is no workaround.
Same situation on the 2022-2023 Venue. DIY key programming is not supported, and server authentication may also be needed, which puts it firmly outside any at-home method.
The 2024 Venue requires professional OBD-II programming with possible server authentication. No shortcut or YouTube procedure applies here.

Did You Know?
It is easy to overlook, but the 2020-2024 Hyundai Venue offers a 4-button smart key with remote start, which is genuinely uncommon in the subcompact SUV segment. Most competitors at this price point either skip remote start entirely or charge extra for it. Hyundai quietly built the Venue into one of the more feature-rich entry-level options on the market.
