Smart Key Battery Drain
Seltos owners often assume the fob is faulty when the CR2032 dies in just a few weeks. Most of the time the real problem is where the key lives overnight. If it sits on a counter near your parked car or hangs on a hook close to the vehicle, the proximity sensors keep searching and quietly drain the battery. Programming Lockout After Failed Attempts
The first thing we check on a no-start Seltos is how many programming attempts were already made before our call. On 2022-2025 models, the factory immobilizer locks itself out after three failed server authentication tries, and a basic code reader will not fix that. Smart Key (2021-2023)
Every 2021-2023 Seltos uses a push-to-start smart key with an encrypted transponder chip inside. Programming goes through the OBD-II port and requires server authentication, which means there is no shortcut a DIYer can take at home. We connect through the diagnostic port, calculate the PIN with the right equipment, and pair your new key in your driveway. It is routine for us and genuinely impossible without the proper tools.
Smart Key (2024-2025)
The 2024-2025 Seltos carries the same OBD-II plus server-authentication process forward, but Kia added Digital Key 2 Touch support and improved proximity sensors on these newer builds. The smart key still holds an encrypted transponder chip, runs on a CR2032 battery, and has three buttons. Dealer-grade PIN calculation is required just as before, and our technicians arrive in San Diego County already equipped to handle it.

Which Key Does Your Seltos Use?
